Thankfully, this won’t happen.
A former Halo dev weighed in and said his role was indeed temporary but that he was open to staying longer. I guess he simply decided not to? I certainly don’t think he was forced out. There’s lots of reasons why this COULD be - maybe the role was too stressful, maybe he achieved all he wanted to achieve, maybe he was upset with the layoffs and their impact and wanted to step away, maybe this was just always the plan. We can only guess at this point.
I didn’t even consider that yeah I can see that happening
people really think mass layoffs are something rare in gaming, huh.
also, people will still be lining to work for XGS/MS, and if you think otherwise… you are very naive.
If the single player team got hit the hardest, and Staten of all people is out - my feeling is 343 is shifting focus entirely to the multiplayer side of Halo, slipspace, forge, the live service, managing the IP overall. Campaigns become available to other in house studios, Id, MachineGames, InfinityWard, etc. If/when they wanted.
I don’t think MS will ‘force’ anyone to do it again, I don’t think they’d have to. Don’t think we’re gonna get another 343 campaign ever again, but I definitely don’t think Halo is dead in the way people are gonna feel for a while.
No other MS studio wants to make a Halo campaign. In fact, history shows XGS really don’t like have other IPs pushed on them.
I don’t mind this at all. If another team wants to take a shot at Halo, let them
Huh…
I wasn’t aware that Amazon did their layoff today as well, 18,000. I guess this is what happens when you’re in one echo chamber. That’s on me.
I’ve been saying this for a while, I think they should do it with Gears as well. There are clearly people who like MP more than SP with both games and the other way around as well. Trying to provide both in a single complete package tied together isn’t a good idea anymore.
Really feel for all the people getting laid off, not just at Microsoft but across all industries as companies prepare for a possible recession. It’s sad to see especially when most of these companies could have kept the people on with a small blip on their balance sheets but they’re beholden to the shareholders who are the owners of these giant corporations
We have already checked and learned a lot. We will be able to talk about it shortly.
This may shock the halo community, but know that it is neither positive nor negative.
If we had to summarize, we would say that this cutscene can teach you a lot.

For those who are worried: rest assured, this is not (really) the end of halo.
On the other hand, it is the end of a cycle which began 13 years ago, to lead to new things.
Never has this slogan been as fair as today

My guess is that 343i will partner with an external studio for a new game.
Yikes. Not a good sign for gaming industry.
Late Night Gaming is suggesting that what is happening at 343I is a repositioning to becoming a publisher, publishing Halo games, made by other developers.
What a load of garbage. The studio is 90% of the size it was the day before yesterday.
The squirrel is right.
Unless they laid off everyone (bar 30 people). I dont see how this is even a potential scenario.
I verry much doubt that
Gonna be interesting what will happen, gotta a feeling we wont see Halo singleplayer for a very long time…
