EA owns Jade Empire and they have bigger single player IPs to leverage. For as cool as Jade Empire was for it’s time, its value pales in comparison to Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Also the Yakuza 7 thig was more about a console launch title than trying to moneyhat a timed exclsuive… MS help fund the next gen development because they wanted a launch title.
Theres no way in hell Yakuza 7 would have come out for PS5 or Series X had MS not helped Sega out. It would have been a PS4 game only for a few months. Look at RGG’s track record. So anyone annoyed about a game that even CAME OUT ON PS4 at launch needs their fucking Skull kicked in.
The game came out for PS4. Imagine being annoyed about that. Idiots. Actually use your brain and thank MS for even making Yakuza Relevant again since franchise came to Gamepass.
Yakuza coming to Xbox(and PC) has been one of the best things to Happen not only for the Franchise but for XBox in general.

You’re missing the point. EA are never going to give away DA or ME. So MS wouldn’t even bother entertaining it. Even though Mass Effect would be infinitely better with another team.
But I’m pretty sure EA would be willing to let MS do another Jade Empire game. If they wanted it. EA won’t do another JE game ever,thank god because they would make it into a terrible game.

Rent Jade Empire from EA? Who’s making the sequel? Microsoft has bigger IPs that they own. What made Jade Empire great was a Bioware team near their prime. Those studios don’t grow on trees and I’d argue all the top ones are tied up right now.
I’m saying its an option as opposed to I don’t know…making Outer Worlds 2. Pointless sequel.
Studios don’t grow on trees but you can plant that seed and make it grow into a tree.
So pull devs off of a successful IP they own in order to rent someone else’s forgotten IP? Jade Empire was great for its time but it was someone else’s dream. Outer Worlds was a small project that has a solid foundation to become something much bigger. It’s something Microsoft owns and can keep supporting. My bet is Outer Worlds brand name resonates more now than Jade Empire would.
Anyways…it’s quite an assumption that EA would just hand it over even as a rental. Major publishers usually don’t do that.
Nobody really cares that much about Jade Empire in 2021. If it was any kind of successful or interesting I would reckon Bioware would had made a couple sequels by now and they didn’t.
I read through all your comments and I must admit their are some valid points people make here. I never played the original so this news didn’t shock me or disappointed me as some of you others but I do get your point here.
Kotor is a legacy Xbox game and it’s sad that Xbox couldn’t or wouldn’t bank on this like playstation has with some titles in the past.
I think a good comparison is Crash Bandicoots comeback. Sony has no ownership over the IP and couldn’t change that it’s coming to Xbox but at least it got the 1 year exclusivity for the Remaster back when that was released. People loved that since it always was a playstation title and they gained points for that in the overall perception. I think it would have been nice in the same way if Xbox got a deal like that here.
The only reason I see Xbox deciding against bidding more is they weren’t too confident about the studios ability to make a proper Kotor Remake. But we’ll have to see how that turns out.
One more interesting thing to note. Sony’s Showcase not only had this but also Remedy’s Alan Wake Remastered on stage which is also a big Xbox legacy game. You can call that coincidence but I’m really not sure, looks like a direct attack.
So yeah, everyone feeling disappointed, I 100% get your point. But let’s wait and see how this one turns out and let’s look forward to the new legacy Xbox is building right now.
I think what’s particularly annoying to me personally as a pc player is how Xbox moneyhats mean I have next to 0 chance of worrying the game doesn’t come to a neutral platform like pc because its become embedded into the ecosystem.
Whereas playstation moneyhats has a decent chance of skipping pc as well. Even ff7r isn’t on pc after almost two years. Forget Xbox at this point, it’s just sad and frustrating that pc folks gotta be collateral in these typa moneyhats from Sony.
The way Sony announced the game to me was scummy. I thought it was a legit full exclusive.
I won’t be upset till I know how long the exclusivity is. If it’s more than 6 months I’ll be upset. If it’s more than a year…. More so.
Expect a year minimum.
And if it succeeds, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Sony does an FF7R and try to extend its exclusivity even further in some way.

I hope Microsoft goes after Sony’s livelihoods after this lol. First the final fantasy thing, now this, sounds like bio shock is next. They got 2 of Bethesda’s games before the buyout. Tried to get starfield.
I hope Microsoft see’s that Sony isn’t stopping, and if anything have gotten more bold in buying timed and full exclusives.
