KoToR Remake Discussion Thread

I wonder if they plan on making the remake Canon? If they do, there is a good chance they replace the Rakata (the ancient Force powered civilization that left their mark on different planets) with the Zeffo (the ancient Force powered civilization that left their mark on different planets) from Fallen Order. Would be a good way to add synergy.

I wouldn’t like changing the story, but who knows with Disney.

I’m under the impression that anything Star Wars that is released now : movies, shows, games are canon.

To me this seems to be Sony’s reply to all the RPGs Xbox is making. There were rumours about this game for years and at no point was Sony mentioned. Could’ve been kept under the wraps. I have a PS5 so if it never comes to Xbox I’ll play it on PS5, but I have a feeling that when it comes to Xbox it’ll be put quite soon on Game Pass. Anyways this game is quite the ways off.

Not necessarily. Star Wars Visions for example is not canon. But that’s more experimental so I guess it can be regarded as an exception.

Sony scored a big win there, but it isn’t the huge deal folks pretend it is. Sony has what, just this one single major WRPG and it is just timed exclusive, no? Run that up against the heaps of them Xbox has any day of the week…

Also, and I hate doing this since KOTOR is among the best games ever imho in terms of story, but by modern standards it doesn’t hold up well at all. It is hyper linear compared to modern rpg’s. Not even an open world. Maybe this changes with the remake, but I kinda doubt it will. Still, good grab for Sony and I hope it ships soon so we can eventually play it after the fact.

But I love the fact it is hyper linear .

Yeah, being a linear rpg isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Final Fantasy X and Kotor are linear and they still are amazing games.

Looking at Aspyr’s history and the fact that they’re re-writing it to fit canon… I’m not feeling super confident in how this turns out.

The expected bar for this is a Bluepoint quality remake. I question if they can even deliver on it. But let’s say this comes out and it’s fantastic. Well, the next step would obviously be to produce a sequel (assuming they remake 2 afterwards as well).

Is… Aspyr going to make it? That’s seriously questionable. Is BioWare going to make it? Also questionable, but at least guaranteed to be multiplatform. More likely than not, Disney would be knocking on Xbox’s door because of their grip on the WRPG space.

That’s why I find this timed exclusivity shortsighted. A no-name port team isn’t going to produce a sequel to such a beloved RPG. BioWare is busy with two major projects. There are no other WRPG developers to tap.

Bluepoint doesn’t remake controls. Demon’s Souls Remake is just nice graphics on top of the old code. This is a full-on completely remade game, not just remade graphics. Very few developers can pull something like that off, let alone one that’s mostly just done ports of old stuff lately.

Good point. I was speaking to the overall production value, but the competency of the remade gameplay is also a question mark for this team.

If these are hyperthetical 2022 games(Kotor won’t be but FF16 will be) then by the end of 2023…you’ll have Starfield KOTOR FF16 and Avowed all available to play on a Series X. Meanwhile PS5 has half of them.

KOTOR 2 wasn’t great. KOTOR 3 makes more sense.

Go away…

It’s an 86 on MC with 67 reviews for Xbox. That’s exactly a great game. I know the first game is better and more critically acclaimed than the second game but I wouldn’t want a part three without getting a remake of part two.

The remake of part 1 is being done by Sony and another team. People have played 1 and 2 years ago. Ignore the remake and just go and make KOTOR 3.

Also who the hell says it has to be a sequel to KOTOR 2? IT can be an Star Wars RPG that just happens to be a spiritual sequel set in a different time period.

We don’t need to wait 10 years for 2 remakes just to make KOTOR 3. Unless you’re asking the team that is remaking KOTOR 1 to do a remake of KOTOR 2…then make KOTOR 3.

Is KOTOR 2 a sequel to KOTOR 1 or it’s own game? If it’s a sequel, I wouldn’t want to jump into 3 without playing 2 and since 1 is getting the remake treatment, I would want the same for 2 before going to 3.

If Kotor 2 is not a sequel. Then I guess it doesn’t matter much.

But that only applies if you’re waiting for the same team making it.

My point is 2 exists. You can play it now on Xbox via BC. You’re not missing out on Story.
