JRPGs |OT| The Grind to Level 99 is Paved With Good Intentions

Cheers for the info I will get the 1st sky on sale

Star ocean already half off for black friday in some places. tempted

Estelle is great, you won’t regret it.

I have some small tips

  • All Trails games have a built in ā€œTurbo functionā€ to speed up the game. Making travelling and battles very quick. Also helps with the ā€œslow camera panā€ parts of cutscenes Falcom loves doing. Use it heavily, you’ll save tons of time

  • Start on Normal difficulty or below. Sky games are very unfair on Hard or above. Only starting with Trails from Zero did the difficulty get toned down on higher difficulties

  • There’s tons of easily missed items. There’s an extremely straightforward Steam guide if you don’t want to miss anything

  • There’s a mod that adds Japanese voice acting from the PS Vita version. By default, the game has NO voice acting besides some callouts in battles. This gives you a fully voiced main story. Video on how to install it if interested.

Yeah it’s $55 here in Canada, $10 less than the digital sale price. I ended up ordering it, I never played a Star Ocean before but I heard people saying it’s a decent return to form after very bad SO5.

After finishing Persona 5 I felt like another JRPG so I’m getting back into Tales of Arise. Even on story mode, it’s ridiculous how spongy the enemies are and how it always feels like you’re doing chip damage. I can’t imagine what it’s like on higher difficulty. Beautiful art though!

Are you referring to physical copies? I’d jump on it for half off but I think it was only the digital deluxe version at $20 off?

If it helps, I recommend to use Alphen’s Blazing Sword/Flaming Edge skills. You loose HP, but the DMG output is worth it. Especially the last skill you unlock via story does ridiculous DMG.

I noticed there are a lot of remasters. A lot of great games finally leaving obsolete hardware. Quite a number of games already released in Japan but finally coming West too.

I have gotten much too comfortable in the Xbox ecosystem, to the point where very few games that are skipping it excite me. I’d surely feel differently if I had played more Atelier or Trails games!

At least, out of the 20 games, the first 7 I listed are coming to Xbox. Close to half, not too shabby for a console that barely had any JRPGs last gen.

As for me, despite my Trails fanboyism, I did not pick any of them from the list… Because I played them already . So I probably am not double dipping unless MS hashes out a deal with NISA by the time they release, then I’d be lined up.

It was a bit tough to pick from my self-imposed limit of 5, but overall, I am very looking forward to playing Persona 3 and 4, as well as Suikoden I and II for my first time, and on Xbox too

I chose Octopath II because despite a very weak story I absolutely loved the gameplay and the soundtrack is one of my favorite in JRPG history, so I hope this game can top it and improve the writing. The game itself looks like a big evolution over the first.

And for my last pick, Ryza 3, I’ve been watching the gameplay videos and the world looks huge, almost open-world like. Seems like it’s gonna be quite an innovation for the Atelier games. I also like the Ryza cast and am looking forward to the end of their story.

Oh yeah, it’s impressive that we’re getting so many of these to begin with. I’d be there day one for Trails games, so I’m just gonna keep my arms raised and sending my energy over. Because I’m a glutton.

I’m a little iffy on One Piece Odyssey, but I just recently caught up after like… a 5-year hiatus so I’m riding that high. Hope the reviews are good!

For me it’s Eiyuden. Already played games like Persona and Symphonia. And I don’t care for games from SE which are skipping Xbox for no reason.

Still have to play Fuga 1 and I’m not too hot on Loop8.

Persona 4 Golden is a top 5 ever game for me, so under normal circumstances I’d say that…

…if not for the fact Suikoden 2 is my top 1 ever game.

If it’s a jrpg and hits Xbox I’m excited haha

But I guess odyssey ina weird way is the one I am the most pumped for

Still playing Kuro no Kiseki 2. My pace is very glacial lol.

I bumped into a minor NPC from Trails in the Sky, Lila, the maid of Bose’s mayor. It looks like she is now running a Liberl imported goods store here in Calvard.

The all too familiar Arseille is also on display here.

Dragon Quest XI leaving Game Pass this month. :slightly_frowning_face:

It looks like it hits 27 USD every few months, a total steal. It’s a pretty long game.

Just picked up a sealed copy on eBay for $28 shipped. I’d need a steeper discount than that to go digital.

Another 100 hour JRPG for the backlog, you can never have too many.

Shit, this has perpetually been on my backlog and I don’t see that changing any time in the next couple weeks. I think I’m just gonna end up buying it for Switch at some point, seems like a good game to play handheld with the tv on in the background.
