Jim Ryan Retires, Connie Booth leaving after 34 years, Layoffs at Sony, Multiplayer games Cancelled

That would be poetic

I think SIE needs Bungie and might be able to retain the devs once they get rid of the old board. Didnā€™t they pay like 1.2 billion for employee retention. To me it seems like Sony can turn this in their favor by blaming all the problems on the heads of Bungie who Iā€™m sure have gotten a huge payout from that initial pay. Perhaps all this while when Sony were giving Bungie control over their studios, they were expecting them to actually take over those studios. The COO was still committed to 6 multiplayer games releasing.

SIE indeed needs them, but the question is do some employees want to stay? Maybe some will, but others who aligned with Bungieā€™s independent nature will.

Are people starting to write articles that say sony isnā€™t perfect?

Which actually isnā€™t great news for Xbox / PC players who are fans of Bungieā€¦ If Sony gets full control over the board, Destiny 3 or future titles could become exclusive or at least major time exclusivity.

Yeah, but you see, Sony will get far more out of Bungie than MS will out of purchasing Activision.

Even if that did happen we are talking close to a decade from now

Marathon has already been announced for Xbox and thereā€™s no way theyā€™d take the backlash of making that exclusive now and whatever theyā€™d be making after that is way off

Destiny is already struggling badly and thatā€™s as a mutiplat release, good luck with even less platforms

From the articles it seems they want to stay as there should be no reason to be fearful of layoff if one plans to leave anyway. Bungieā€™s independent nature seems to have been corrupted with greed. I donā€™t think the heads of Bungie even care about being taken over, they already got a huge payout which is becoming quite the thing now. Studios sell and the top brass leave with huge pay for something else.

Technically his quote at least implied he was referring to percent based calculations, but yeah still a load of hogwaah.

Phil must do what Nadella did with OpenAI if Sony takes control of Bungie.

Not sure how that works given Sony already owns Bungie. I think Phil would politely be told to get out of the building.

I think they mean create a new studio and offer all the employees jobs at the new studioā€¦?

Sony canā€™t force them to stay in their current jobs. Bungie with 0 employees is worthless.

Ah, got it. Thatā€™s totally not how I interpreted it and makes much more sense.

Thatā€™s certainly the message the media was trying to brainwash people into thinkingā€¦ spent all that time the last 18+ months convincing people that Xbox was evil and the ABK deal was going to end the industry. Meanwhile Sony has been laying off close to 1000 people and we keep finding string after string of issues, but donā€™t worry thereā€™s nothing ā€œwrongā€ at Sony and theyā€™re the bastions of all that is good in the industry

Is naughty dog pretty profitable? Since the main issue is that their games cost a lot to make and donā€™t make enough for Sony, forcing the GAAS shift behind the scenes.

What I donā€™t get is that it was mentioned multiple times that bungie was being bought to help PlayStation out with their GaaS push but now Sony is taking them over to help Bungie out with their GaaS?

Also I donā€™t see dissolving the board is going to change much? Would they pull marathon off Xbox and possibly PC after it was already announced? Maybe and I doubt the media give them much shit about doing it but I just donā€™t see much changing about destiny or Marathon unless they go scorched earth, cancel the game and get them working on another project which would be both costly and controversial which would just likely mean even more job losses at the studio.

That is how Sony takes over Bungie, spelled out in the contracts. All decisions for that company will then be Sonyā€™s. That changes everything about the company.

Meanwhile ā€¦

It wont change anything about Destiny under performing or having absolutely horrible onboarding experience or inability to retain players or providing the absolute worst value for expansions or entirely ignoring what the community says they want in the game.

If Sony takes over, I can imagine the confusion on why the game suddenly has walking scene with no action happening but dialogues, more cutscenes, and rare QTE moment. Also a new character who lost his son.
