I think we will never know. Returnal was a (relatively) commercial failure but a high point in terms of technique.
My guess is his vesting money probably came in from the buy out so time to start the no compete clause and then either get a new studio or jump to where he wants.
Honestly wondering if when that time comes for Xbox how many jump from double fine, inxile, obisidan and such

The big guy at Sony left just after having failed to prevent the biggest deal in VG history. Also, big investments in GAAS that fail to materialize and big problems at Bungie just after having paid a lot for it. All under his command. āWhat a nice guy, he really deserves to retireā.
I still remember the comments when Ken Kutaragi was āretiredā as well after the ps3 debacle.

The Last of Us Factions continues to be one of Sonyās weirdest in-development projects. That is, if itās still in development at all.
Iām sure everything is going SMOOTHLY, cause that is the only assumptions applied to Sony, everything always great and no problems.

Maybe if Sony fans and the bias Sony slanted media just talks about hardware sales for the next 3-4 years they can avoid admitting Sony has any issues right now and for the future given they do not have a roadmap of many games past this year.
Cause we all know hardware sales certainly makes up for games/value for gamers.

I kept seeing it and had this weird memory of it being just a add on mode to begin with
It was announced when the game was, if I recall, and it was promised to be included until ND made a tweet explaining that it would be moved out of the launchā¦. That was before the game was released, so itās a bit funny to see some of the revisionism to make it seem like less of a failure just because itās Sony.

It gets worse. It was delayed out of the game proper for being ātoo ambitiousāā¦so to deliver, it needs to be far, far beyond Halo, Goldeneye, CoD, Mario Kart where the multiplayer is included gratis.

At the time they used loads of phrases designed to explain away they delay as a good thing

Fast forward 4 years and (that I can find) there has not been one single news article or opinion piece about how Factions mode must be really bad to be so delayed, ND multiplayer in trouble or anything else, Just neutral regurgitation of ND comments on the subject.
Of course we canāt prove if an Xbox project had run the same cycle the output would have been different but Iād say there is enough circumstantial evidence to hang 'em high.
