Jim Ryan Retires, Connie Booth leaving after 34 years, Layoffs at Sony, Multiplayer games Cancelled

It feels like a mix of both. The best I can hope is 343i Redux alas Season 4+ where they made a great comeback. Otherwise, this is only going to get worse.

Sony can barely handle a Bungie acquisition by the looks of things but you have folks talking about them buying Take 2

Apparently Firesprite is also a dumpster-fire according to this post in other era:

Post in thread ‘PlayStation Studios |OT38| I have nothing left, except Spider-Man.’ PlayStation Studios |OT38| I have nothing left, except Spider-Man. Sony - OT | Page 147 | ResetEra

But if it were Xbox…

Microsoft proved they can handle Bethesda, including making sure Starfield launch without serious problem. If they can handle ABK, goodness gracious, they will be unstoppable.

Disasterous for Playstation.

Blimey, I don’t really follow PS like I used to but as much as the media doesn’t seem to like talking about bad Sony news, I’m surprised I havn’t heard anything about this

Seems like a trainwreck at that studio, is that the one doing the horror game? Or this that the other Fire studio?

I’m SURE ALL these Sony issues is just a coincidence you know.

Probably more Sony than Bungie, Sony’s also had layoffs at Naughty Dog, Media Molecule and one of their support studios in recent weeks…

Unless I missed it, I wasn’t aware of these issue at all.

Yep and now with so many studios they can more easily gives dev more time to polish games since their calendar will be packed anyway.

Yeeeep. Games are taking longer to develop, but MS had added so much they can still increase frequency and dev time. Sony is having to rush things just to keep an old school schedule of 1-2 games a year

Yes, a new horrlr game, twisted metal and another VR game.

No one was until a couple of hours ago but Hey! Apparently its only Xbox the one who cant manage its studios!!!

Another composer, Michael Sechrist, was let go as well. I don’t play these games but the Destiny community seems really upset by these losses.

Wow, they basically cut all the music side of things? must’ve been serious budget cuts, they’re letting everyone but the dev team go.

Which means if there’s any further layoffs….

I think all these cuts etc rule out PlayStation acquiring any more studios in the near future (especially publishers - like TakeTwo and EA which the pony’s have been tweeting everywhere).

Sucks to see these layoffs. It’s particularly weird that storied veterans are being let go. Is this just SIE doing some penny pinching or are priorities and plans being reorganized at the company? Lots of people are speculating that Sony is planning to abandon their GAAS ambitions, but this seems like wishful thinking imo.

Also, maybe Bungie shouldn’t be owned by anyone… Maybe they should just succeed or fail on their own. Idk.

I don’t think publishers of that scale were ever on the table regardless of these Sony issues

Seen the same but it very much feels like wishful thinking

The reason they were moving towards GaaS is because they know they need more than their usual insanely budget bloated single player games

Nope, TBH I don’t think even the mid size ones were either. If Sony was going to acquire someone like Square they would have done it years ago!

They’re not abandoning their GAAS ambitions. Ryan be Firin’ because he failed to deliver that ambition and let ABKs content leave their platform. Its a worse situation than when he started. Not only nothing to show, but now they’re not even CoD central.
