are you playing on xbox one by any chance?
Yea, Iām playing on the One X.
yeah you are 100% correct there. They could just be waiting for a final build of the medium or perhaps even sales and engagement results from it⦠IMO it kind of feels like condemned criminal origins in terms of it actually ending up being a great representation of next gen at the console launch and unexpectedly ending up being my favorite launch game.
the games success could end up being the straw that broke the camels back in terms of Microsoft making a move.
yeah that is where i played it mostly and noticed the same thing as you.
I did dabble a bit in the PC version via game pass and found that the high resolution textures definitely improved the experience in terms of my ability to make stuff out in darker environments. With the medium supporting ray tracing and just overall being able to pump out not just overall high resolutions but increase the texture resolution as well Im hopefully we will see huge gains visually, especially in low light.
Yes, MS cannot rely on 3rd party content to keep Game Pass content flowing. They need 25-30 AAA development teams to keep new 1st party content rolling every other month (big AAA release), that is a 4yr development cycle plus 1-6 other teams producing content as well, in case (like Halo) some AAA content has to slip, then they have something in the pipeline that can take up that spot.
Long term, down the road a fair bit, I would think the goal would be to have 1st party AAA content releasing every month.
Right now, MS has 17 to maybe 20 AAA teams, and most of those AAA teams are either staffing up or are early in production, thus the glaring lack of content ready right now, it is coming, but probably 1-2 years out. This is why they need to acquire more studios.
Also, this is why WB Games makes a lot of sense. 6 AAA studios (how many of those studios have 2 teams?) that can develop content and it helps MS a lot right now. 3-4 of those 6 teams have content releasing (Rocksteady\Suicide Squad, WB Montreal\Court of Owls, TT Games\Lego Skywalker, Avalanche\Harry Potter) either this year or in 2021, perfect to fill the gap for MS other 1st party studios.
Yes, they would release on PS as well, but who cares, because they would all release on Game Pass Day 1. You want to pay full price for these games on PS or pay $15\mth to play them Day 1 release on Game Pass? Still a win for MS IMO.
Actually, Microsoft could choose whether they release on PS unless it was a condition of leasing an IP to release on PS. The reason those titles would be different than other acquisitions is because WB is the publisher nit a third party that worked out deals.
Bloober team is a public traded company. We should know by now if they getting acquired by someone. I know there was an polish article that they are in talks. Still donāt think is gonna happend soon.
Now thereās a new version of the WB email going around and This time it features more core oriented games, I think thereās more to this than I initially thought. Something is up whether itās Marketing partnership, game pass or something even bigger,
Keep going
I think theyāre gonna acquire 4A Games!
ā¦SHIT!
Dam that was the studio I wanted Microsoft to get the most. Metro games are amazing
Yeah, surprised MS wouldnāt top that deal. Wonder if they already spent big?
Microsoft has filed 25 billion in spendings next year in the contractual purchases line. Huge numbers for investing in devices and software for the next 12 months
At this point Iām convinced embracer are setting themselves up to be bought out by amazon or google they have so many devs how are they doing this lol
Also THQ Nordic / Koch media what is going on there
4A Games is a missed opportunity. Metro would have been great in the portfolio.
GSC Game World could be interesting, though I donāt know much about them.
4A would have been a risky proposition to a US Company like Microsoft because they are still Ukraine based and are still slowly migrating staff to their Malta studio. Thatās a massive cost outlay on top of the fact they donāt own their own IP (Metro is a famous book series in Eastern Europe) and the business case doesnāt really add up because youād be spending a lot of money to help a studio move over creating new one. Itās unfortunate but it is what it is. Embracer is Swedish and closer by so the likely donāt have some of the baggage a US company purchase would have.
MS probably have much, much more reasonable targets but this stuff takes months, if not even a year to get done (Double Fine took a very long time for example). So Iād temper expectations and wait and see rather than wanting to buy every single studio that might have money trouble.
i think 4A transfered their business to Malta a couple of years ago.
Business office is in Malta but devloper studio is in Kyiv, Ukrane from what I remember
Bungie really seems like a possibility the more I think about it.
Bring them in, pay off NetEase for them and then let them go to work on whatever is next.
It also wouldnāt hurt to have them as in house support for finishing up Infinite.
