i think he did say that but the end result is that it ended up a good game it seems
Exactly, which makes th end result even better, seeing what they had to go through, not being helped with the pandemic and WFH. They deserve this great moment.
they do i hope everyone gets a well deserved break
Problem is the game will still be worked on for yearsā¦
I really really really hope they have planned for it to be sustainable in the long run.
Careful⦠apparently laying out someoneās track record as such (with data to back up) is apparently going full āconspiracyā to some here
Btw, and this has always bugged me, itās conspiracy theory; conspiracies happen all the time in politics/business (if the 2016-2020 era alone didnāt prove that to you I donāt know what will). Throwing around āconspiracy theoristsā to describe arguments you donāt like has always been a lazy, thought-ending cliche, and I say this as someone who doesnāt ascribe to the ideals/theories levied against actual tinfoil-hat people (the one-letter idiocy, for example).
Not sure I like Brad Sams behavior about all that. Sure his article was more right than wrong all things considered, and 343i denied some of his stuff in the past that ended up being not wrong, but at the same time, they were going through very rough days, so it is understandable they were not happy at this point. However, to see him being really vindictive about that is a bit strange, like come on, give them some slack, I think they more than earned it ( him wanting to post that on r/halo doesnāt help either, it is a really bad place full of toxic people ).
They questioned his integrity/validity as a reporter which is not something anyone in that industry will appreciate. I can see why he feels that way and see no issue with his comments lol.
And this has nothing to do with 343 earning slack or a pass. Think those are 2 different things.
And it is understandable why they felt that way. Now it just feels a bit childish. And yes I think they deserve a bit of a break, they went through rough patches, today is their day. Iām not saying that people should not even talk about all that stuff, but at least give them today. And wanting to post that on r/halo, a place that harasses 343i constantly and even gave them death threats is just not a good look at all.
Iāve been calling r/Halo a cesspool for years and itās finally good to see so many others see it for what it is⦠I mean when the mods start drawing false equivalencies (using a āboth sidesā argument) to the āsideā that simply wants people to stop sending death threats to developers and other users, itās clearly a toxic hellhole that the mods helped enrich. Brad should know better and knowing full-well what kind of miserable toxic community that is, and still wanting to feed them with more targets, is beyond childish, itās willful endangerment.
If anything, the well received praise should put them in a much better spot since now they have the momentum and confidence. Past iterations put them in a rough spot and after MCC finally repaired, messing up again with Infinite would hurt them, perhaps severely. Look at BioWare or DICE after their latest release. They needed this.
Yes its their day and nobody is taking away from the reception of the game but that has nothing to do with Jason today confirming twhat Brad said a year ago that they considered splitting launch of the game. It was absolutely true after they said his reporting was false and made up. You dont want that as a journalist.
Now regarding r/halo that place is a shithole and the less said the better.
To me it was more him wanting to post that on r/halo after everything that happened there that irked me the wrong way. Like @Knottian said, this is willful endangerment.
The story here is interesting mostly in how well Staten and the team came together to overcome those challenges and make the biggest Halo game yet with a critical consensus view being it is the best since Halo 3 and to some, the best Halo ever. Technical issues are certainly there, but most everyone seems thrilled with the end result.
I understand both sides.
Brad Sams should feel aggrieved for being right and being told by Microsoft and Xbox fans that he was wrong. It also comes off as petty when he says he wants to feed this story to r/Halo to add to the hateful cesspool that is that subreddit.
This is the correct take.
I dont recall all the details, but ā¦
Might be a matter of tenses or participants? Thereās a difference between ā343 are considering separate releasesā and ā343 have considered separate releasesā. Same topic, same decision, but one implies future intent or still ongoing. The other aspect is who or how many were part of that topic / decision? In all companies there are all sorts of topics that get bantered around and discussed by developers but that doesnāt mean the company or upper management or even middle management is even considering it.
That doesnāt excuse going beyond the standard āThat is not accurateā and calling out ones integrity.
I agree, but him wanting to make things worse with r/halo is not great either.
Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Brad has every right to highlight he has been partially vindicated because credibility is everything in his line of work, but I think he is out of order for wanting to feed the hate that exists on Halo Reddit and donāt tell me he is not aware.
Havenāt read any of the article but would it be safe to say that Staten is the 343 Industries version of ex-Rockstarās Leslie Benzies who would basically just come in and fix up the game? If so, Microsoft needs to pay and give Staten whatever he wants in order to stay at 343 and be the man for Halo moving forward.
