At the Developer_Direct show the team at MachineGames revealed a lot of information on the new Indiana Jones game. It’s called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and will be releasing this year.

The biggest news – besides showing a lot of gameplay – is that the game will be mostly be played from a first-person perspective. There are some third-person traversal parts. But most of the game will be enjoyed ‘from your own eyes’

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to release in 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC’s, Cloud Gaming and Game Pass.

The official reveal of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle™ was debuted during the January Developer_Direct with over 13 minutes of gameplay footage and developer insights.

This new journey starring the legendary archaeologist comes from the award-winning team at MachineGames – the minds behind Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus – in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and executive produced by Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle™ is coming later this year to Xbox Series X|S and PC and will be available day one on Game Pass. Check out the full announce from the Developer_Direct and get more insights from the team at MachineGames below.

Set between “Raiders of the Lost Ark™” and “The Last Crusade™”, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is a first-person, single-player adventure that will take you all over the world, uncovering clues and solving an ancient mystery. Become the adventurer in a race against sinister forces. Your journeys will take you from the hallowed halls of the Vatican and the arid deserts of Egypt to the lush and sunken temples of Sukhothai and the frigid peaks of the Himalayas.

“Our game is about putting you in the shoes of an iconic hero,” says Design Director Jens Andersson. “Since we are doing this mostly in first-person, you have the chance to truly become Indy. First-person makes you part of this world – allowing you to explore and experience things more intimately. What will you do when you’re dropped into this adventure with your wits and your whip? The world of Indiana Jones is a world with mysteries around every corner, where you’re racing against the clock and outsmarting your enemies as you hunt down artifacts.”

From their approach to crafting unique and believable stories and characters, to their over-the-top and unforgettable set pieces, MachineGames is the perfect studio to bring Indiana Jones to modern gaming.

“It’s like two pieces of a puzzle that just fit so well together,” says Senior Animator Rebecca Elfstrӧm Hidén. “We have big, sometimes crazy ideas that seem insane on paper, but they meshed really well with the franchise. You’ve got this amazing adventure that digs into the heart of the character and shines a light on all the things that made people fall in love with him in the first place, and then you’ve got these big, complex set pieces that just fit really well in there. Our DNA and the pillars of Indiana Jones just came together so naturally.”

And the team can’t wait for the world to see more of what they’ve been working on. Everyone at MachineGames has their own reasons for why Indy is so important to them. It’s the feeling of taking part in a great adventure, and memories of growing up watching the movies with their families. For some it’s even been about passing that love and those moments down to their own kids.

“There are a lot of Indiana Jones fans at MachineGames. Most of us grew up with Indy and fell in love with the movies and the character when we were young. We’ve just got these ties to the character that go back decades,” agrees Game Director Jerk Gustafsson. “But even if you didn’t grow up with Indiana Jones, you know Indiana Jones. He’s a relatable type of hero and a true adventurer. That’s a legacy we want to share and be part of, and we want to build something interesting and genuine.”

Since we already knew (pretty much) that this was a 2024, the other big surprise was the face reveal. Emperor’s Tomb didn’t have Ford as the face, but we have him here. It’s awesome.

Seriously jumped up in my most anticipated list. I thought it was a really good showing.

I kind of wished the Marketing team went with the Latin “Circuli Magni” instead, but they must have some analytics to support it. Indian Jones and the Circuli Magni. Lol

I really hope they do the type of puzzles they had in New Order, legitimately one if my favorite puzzles in AAA games, especially the ones that I had to use a translator, cool stuff. The puzzle sections they showed had me itching to play them.

The game looks amazing to me! I grew up with Indiana Jones, and I think they nailed the approach here. I will admit to not being sure in advance about how I would feel about the stupid first versus third person choice, but I really think that it seems they nailed going with the first person for the things where you are “being Indy” in the game. Their comfort level with first person should hopefully make the gameplay awesome too, as it seems the whip was implemented in a pretty versatile and cool manner.

I was skeptical with a first person Indy game but Machine Games really nailed it, the whip mechanics looks fun. Most anticipated game this year along with Avowed, Dragons Dogma, and FFVII rebirth.

Looks so good, they totally nailed it, it willl probably be a better story then the last 2 movies.

And I LOVE that its 1st person, will be greatly immersive.

Had I seen everything that I have seen today, knowing that it was coming from any other developer, I would have been pretty excited.

But knowing that this is coming from Machine Games, I am very excited.

That cutscene in the beginning, right away, reminded me of why I like their stuff. They are good at creating this “high stakes” feel from the get-go, and then taking you on a ride to save the day.

I’m going to need to watch that again.

I like how Microsoft(Bethesda) was able to get the official face lol, I haven’t seen this before.

Spiritual successor to Chronicles of Riddick, but with Indy as the character. Yeah I am all in.
