Horizon Forbidden West |OT| Bow and Arrow Simulator

Watching Skill Up’s review now. He rarely if ever used a mount and instead traveled on foot which is exactly how I play every open world game. Best combat/gameplay in an open world game is definitely something I can agree with as HZD was the only open world game from last generation that I rated a perfect 10/10 in gameplay/combat.

The pop-in is horrible. Holy shit. Giant structures literally popping into place as you’re 10m or so away. What happened to that magical SSD? lmao.

Visually though, yeah, easily the best looking game of this generation up to this point and I don’t see any game matching it any time soon.

Story and character wise, Skill Up thinks the plot was too much and should have been more grounded. He loved the characters and all the side content seems to be excellent.

Overall though, he loved the game and while he doesn’t give scores, he would rate it a 9.5/10 if he did. Looking forward to HFW this Friday!!! Hyped!!!

Maybe it’s just me but pop in that bad is never a good thing, not sure I’d take points away for that though. But if the story isn’t all that, story is very important. 9.5 sounds a bit too high.

Nice :billed_cap:

Souls games are slow and methodical, yes, that’s the point. Bloodborne is the opposite, rewards aggression while still maintaining the stamina and rpg elements. Sekiro on the other hand is just as aggressive and fast paced and strips away the stamina and RPG systems, so on some level I wouldn’t consider that as a Souls game anyway. Elden Ring is mixing a lot of design from all their previous games so we gonna see both slow and methodical but also fast and aggressive styles.

All these are action games, they just aren’t these power fantasies like most others.

The pop in is really bad for the few structures/examples that Skill Up showed. It could just be bugs with those areas because the rest of the game has little to no pop in that I saw in his 38 minute video.

Story seems to focus heavily on deeper sci-fi stuff according to Skill Up. Of course, majority of reviewers didn’t like the story in Dying Light 2 where as im really enjoying it and no issues with that game’s story thus far so this is one of the things that I have to play it myself.

Props to Sony for how they almost always elevate the quality of the games from their studios. Says a lot how they, every few years, elevate another studio to that GOTY level of releases.

Guerilla with another exceptional game even better than the first it seems. Can’t wait to play it.

When i said theyre slow and methodical i wasnt criticising. I like it like that. Im an action fanatic. Ninja gaiden dmc bayonetta…thats my genre. But souls game offer something different in a good way.

And no sekiro is not a souls youre right. Thats sort of in between with a pure action combat with no rpg elements. I like sekiro as well i got 1000/1000 on that game

Yeah. I saw a big part of the DF video and man, as a first and foremost Xbox gamer (so to speak) I can’t help with want this for future XGS titles too. A game like Fable with visuals and attention to detail like this? Oh yes, please. Even Avowed, Obsidian may not be known for eye melting graphics but for sure with the Xbox budget and the time they’re getting we’re gonna see something special.

GG is a studio to be proud of, Dutch pride I should say, haha. Incredible. DF shows Killzone SF too and it’s crazy how that game still looks now, damn. Rockstar probably remain the kings of detail, but HFW is doing some really cool stuff like the Racoon hopping through the grass and the grass deforming and what not.

Fable and Next game from Coalition will satisfy you… Ninja Theory will do something similar but Hellblade 2 won’t be a pretty game because of its dark nature.

I only see these 3 studios making good looking game for xbox right now. Other Studios doesn’t show that intention at all to me.

True. Hellblade 2 is dark, gritty, but very impressive.

I expect Avowed to look great in its own right. And even though we haven’t seen a single thing of Cobalt yet I expect something good looking as well. But I see your point, the focus of GG, SSM, ND and Insomniac is delivering high quality visuals and animations. TC is known for the visuals, they know their graphics, one of the reasons I’d love to see something entirely new by them someday.

I never discredit a game if it look good in its own right. Halo Infinte is pure ART and I love it…

But I simply want more of pretty games with the intention to make the game a graphical bench mark

That’s what I want to see more and more of

The pop-in seems to be really bad in Skill Up’s review, particularly as this was after the Day 1 patch. It’s odd that DF didn’t mention it in their tech analysis video.

100%!!!

I mean MS made it a case of mentioning how powerful the One X was and also Series X, now we want to see it in action! With new IP.

I think in its own right for a BGS game I think we might see some really impressive stuff in Starfield.

I would expect a day one patch to fix all that. ACG mentioned too that it’s a buggy game. Bigger, bolder, buggier I think he said.

Even before Elden Ring there is also Dragon’s Dogma that we often forget to mention. Hopefully we’ll see DD2 this year, I loved the first game.

Horizon really is the epitome of a success story and it really feels this is to Sony what Zelda is to Nintendo, the de-facto flagship adventure game. I know Playstation has other open world games but this is the one that really feels like you’re romping through this fantasy land similar to a Zelda type game. I know the BOTW comparisons came out because the games released next to each other but I can still see a lot of similarities more so than other Playstation games

Aloy has now become a staple character in Playstation despite only having one game, she’s been well received and is probably the most popular or at least second most popular Playstation character behind Kratos, Also she was in Monster Hunter World DLC, Fortnite, Fall Guys and freaking Genshin Impact

Also…20 Million for a new IP is insane, granted the game’s been 12$ for like 4 years now but still shows how big Horizon is despite it being a new IP

It’s honestly nuts. Guerrilla Studios deserves their roses for creating a staple character for PS on their first game in the franchise.

If you told me in 2011 that the creators of Killzone would make a game more popular than Uncharted/Halo I would of laughed at you.

Surely that’s just a bug?

Preordered…

I pre-ordered the game digitally for PS5 as I believe that they will be doing an expansion later this year like they did with the first game. Will have to cancel and refund my GameStop pre-order next week.

Sadly, I won’t be playing until next Thursday as Dying Light 2 is taking me longer than expected and I want to fully complete it before moving on to HFW.
