Halo |OT2| Forging Ahead

There are very few casual playlists.

Rocket Race, Multi Team, Infection, etc are all missing

True, but there’s so much more to creating a social game/experience. Pre-game and post-game lobbies are pretty impactful in this area.

I’ve also noticed that pacing in Halo Infinite is pretty quick. You’re into a battle not too long after you spawn. Whereas in games like Halo 3 you had a bit of time to go grab weapons and coordinate with teammates. It’s not bad for a game to be quicker paced I’m just pointing out that it facilitates a more sweaty atmosphere than a casual one.

Forge will allow for all sorts of game types from super sweaty to super casual and so I think from a gameplay perspective we are only months away from seeing the floodgates open.

This is why I hope all of the other features that help facilitate social play are implemented sooner than later. Lobbies, menus, discoverability of user created content, etc. Forge will take care of the rest.

I know and agree. Was just saying that to poke at you guys.

I just think halo infinite fails on both fronts. On one side it can be to sweaty for casual players, and on the other side as a competitive player I’m left very bored with the ranked offering.

Today I was watching the coop stream on Xbox Era and honestly everything is there already in the game, just need to be step up and refined. Im inclined to install the game again to play coop. I have played a lot o Infinite, but the game died on me due to progression based on those challenges, im really not an hardcore mp guy. I agree with discussions here, most issues of infinite are related to the lack social experiences:

  1. Everything you do in the game should earn XP to progress the BP;
  2. Social lobbies;
  3. Coop is super fun and a great addition, but would be nice a online version or a infinte free roam (some kind of destiny adaptation, but in a smaller scale and with halo DNA) where a couple of players are put in the same server and share the world. You could party up or do objectives alone and the missions would work like a raid/assaults where there would be an option to matchmaking. They could add daily objectives and challenges, small raids, new missions, new bosses, and tie the xp earning to the battlepass. This would appeal single player and casual (not interested in arena) folks to keep getting back to the game.
  4. Battle Royale, honestly, the campaign map or some areas are pretty much set up for a battle royale mode, after some tweaks. It could be something special.

The game has a lot of potential to grab new players that was not really well explored by 343i until the moment, in my opinion.

The IGN Podcast Unlocked podcast has a clickbaity title but I listened to that particular assignment while cleaning up cat vomit this morning and it was rational and measured.

One point that wasn’t brought up because it is a bit harsh is that some of these people were ā€œresponsibleā€ for some of the more unpopular aspects of the game like microtransactions and progression. I put quotes because sometimes these people are pressured from corporate execs especially when we’re dealing with monetization.

For that reason I don’t see this turnover as a big issue. With 343 purposefully shedding away their Bungie identity early on in its formation, I’m hoping they can rebungeify 343, personally.

Is a hot take to say I think the armor core system is good? Im seeing the most variety of armor ive ever seen in a Halo game.

Was thinking the same thing yesterday when playing. There is so much cool stuff, more than in any other Halo and compared to other f2p games this is one where I actually like the style and am happy if I get a new cool helmet or nice shoulder pads.

Been in the Live Chat with a YouTuber coder that was trying to get some stuff working using the nodes system in Forge. It was great seeing what forge can and can’t do. The primitive system isn’t yet fully working so creating things like elevators and stuff only involved one object but it’s cool to see the potential for when it’s fixed.

In some respects Forge is a lot like Unity and Unreal Engine which is pretty impressive. It’s a large undertaking.

I had to leave the chat because I have work to do now but he’ll be looking at more stuff going forward. His channel is called ā€œDerrik Createsā€ if anyone was interested.

As there was stuff that wasn’t yet working I can definitely understand why it’s not even in a beta stage at this point. That said, if it turns out that 343 leaked this on purpose, I can understand that too because this sort of preview has me super excited.

I asked another channel for Streets during noontime and they delivered, it changes the feel of the map. I was picturing something with more intensity in the sunlight, which you can change, but the way they set it up looks good because during rainy days the intensity of the sunlight is blocked by clouds so it worked well. Note that the skybox can’t be changed, unfortunately. (Edit: I think I’m wrong about the sky box, looking at how they did it)

Still, exciting stuff. IMO a game changer when so many asked for more content. Infinite content incoming with this. There’s a lot more 343 have to address in terms of the rest of the game but this user generated content will take a massive burden off their shoulders.

It’s not bad by any means, but cross core customization will all much more creativity with regards to how Spartans look.

Visors, is this perhaps to mean the first cross core implementation? It would likely be the easiest to implement so I guess if they planned to roll it out in phases that would be the place to start.

Yes, very excited about that! Can’t wait for when they extend it to helmets and coatings.

Yeah, this is referring to cross-core visors.

You would think that 8 month after release that profile service records would be ready but I guess not. Not even a whisper when to expect them.

Tracking any kind of all time stats in game is impossible. Career stats and or leaderboard tracking has been a standard for AAA shooters for idk 15+ years. Halo 3’s was better in 2007.

I waffle between being hopeful for Halo because the game is good and frustrated that 343 cannot figure out how to properly launch a game.
