Halo TV series early review: 2 premiere episodes are an intriguing mess - Polygon
Blockquote Like my colleagues have already suggested, it’s quite hard to take in these first two episodes of Halo and find a reason to keep going. Even for those who, like myself, are more than willing to sign up for 40 minutes to an hour of anything as long as there’s some cool-looking space shit involved. Unfortunately, the space shit in Halo ? Sub-par. Not very Legendary. A real overheated plasma pistol, if you catch my drift.
Yup looks like the Halo show sucks, sigh…. Just disappointing. Well I guess we wait until the Gears and Call of Duty movie. Both starring Dwayne Johnson
Its currently rated 16% higher than Uncharted, so may still be decent enough to watch.
That quote is misleading. His colleagues didn’t suggest that if you read what they said.
A lot of the reviews I am seeing for the show come from people who seemed confused on why the show isn’t following the game story line, or have barely kept up with Halo and are confused in general.
Good thing I don’t care about the opinions of reviewers in any medium, there have been so many things that they express dislike for that I watch, see or play that I enjoyed and would never have if I listened. So like everything else I will jump in and try it out and if I don’t like it then I don’t like.
Yea we knew forever the show was silver canon as 343 put it
Community in a nutshell lately i have my own criticisms but i don’t harp it over and over again and wish for 343 to fail like certain ones i see on social media
It looks like people who got to go to the premiere at SXSW are more positive, if Gizmodo is anything to go by:
I think it’s understandable that the TV series would have a rocky-ish start considering it is an attempt to establish a whole alternative canon(?) while bringing on a new audience who may be unfamiliar with the scope of the Halo IP.
Sort of reminds me of The Witcher’s first season. A chronological mess with not much connective tissue but lays a very solid foundation for a more impressive and coherent second season.
Not gonna lie. I’m not too encouraged by what some of the early reviews are saying. I do know what attitude I’m taking with this and that is just watch as a a sci-fi action drama and hope it’s good. Forget that it’s Halo, forget the games and book canon. Just watch it as it’s own thing and if I still don’t like, chalk it up as an “oh well” and move on
I think any show whose foundations are a video game are going to struggle to be a critical success due to the supposed silliness of the premise. Thing is, Halo has an enormous amount of mythology but it is relatively scattershot and Paramount is aware that most mythology not dealing with Spartan 117 is going to go over the heads of a casual audience.
I think the studio is seemingly caught between a rock and a hard place with appealing to new audiences while trying to cater to fans.
63 percent thats not too bad it Might be decent the fact that paramount already renewed the show suggests they are confident in this show
it is 16 reviews of 2 episodes
I don’t listen to most critics anyway, but yeah this makes it especially dumb to base an opinion on. I’ll see for myself soon enough.
