Halo |OT| Master Chief's Breath of the Wild Moment (Part 1)

Well that doesn’t make any sense. Xbox is all about gamepass. 343 probably won’t release another full fledged game for 5 years or more. They are Xbox’s biggest studio and should be pumping out gamepass content like everyone else.

At first when they anounced the game as having free to play multiplayer I was very surprised. Why? Well if everything they do is about games pass like it seams the plan is simple. Pull in 100 million plus players like the other big free shooters. Offer them some big incentive to sub to gamepass. The question isnt WILL infinite’s multiplayer offer a big incentive for game pass ultimate members, it’s WHAT WILL IT BE.

It’s the same concept as a game like Hellblade that has little to no micro transactions launching into the service. Offer the game for sale and offer it on gamepass. If they all get it by subbing to gamepass than that’s their only source of revenue.

With infinites multiplayer it’s a win win. If they buy the battlepass, great Xbox makes money. If they sub to get it instead…. Great Microsoft makes money.

What does this have to do with Infinite battle pass not being free? By all intents and purposes the new multiplayer IS f2p and not tied to game pass subscription in the slightest. They need to make money off the game somehow and giving it away via game pass is not that.

Yep the battlepass system is that source of revenue besides people buying it like myself or playing the free to play multiplayer and or gamepass

Well In regards to your last comment isn’t that same exact thing anti gamepass users say? They make money one of 2 ways just like every other Xbox game. By selling the content to people who don’t have gamepass, and by getting subs/making sure people reSub to gamepass.

Regardless they will make money, hand over fist and sell more gamepass subs than if this was a traditional halo game launching into the service.

They will have 100 million plus players. And they only have around 10-15 million game pass ULTIMATE subs probably. So 80% or more of their infinite players won’t have gamepass. They will make tons of money from the micro transactions. It will also incentivize millions of people to sub, way more than if infinite didn’t have a free to play multiplayer.

Every single other Xbox studio(besides Minecraft) is focused on releasing content on gamepass. Am I supposed to believe that half or more of 343 Xbox’s biggest studio doesn’t have the same focus?

A new season every 3 months releasing through gamepass ultimate offers extra incentive for people to never cancel their subs.

So their source of revenue won’t be from the millions of extra subs they get from people Subbing to play the battlepass, meanwhile most of the players won’t sub and will have to pay for it?

No its not and you are mixing 2 things entirely.

The Multiplayer is FREE and outside of game pass. If you want the battle pass buy it or you dont. You arent entitled to the content drop just because you are subbed to game pass.

Nah it’s exactly the same thing.

“How will they make money” on singleplayer games like Hellblade…. By people buying the game or by them subbing.

“How will they make money” on a free service game that offers all their micro transactions through a battlepass…… by people buying it or by subbing.

I didn’t say I was entitled to anything. I merely said it makes sense to offer it to push millions of more people to gamepass ultimate.

If they do it… cool great…. If they don’t I’ll make a choice about buying it. I just find it odd that people don’t think Microsoft will offer a huge incentive on this free to play game. It’s going to pull in more players than any other Xbox studios game could dream of, and you don’t think Microsoft will try to pull them into a sub?

I think it would make sense for there to be some type of perk associated with Game Pass for first party f2p/service-type games. Obviously not for access to everything, but it would be a missed opportunity to not try and turn those markets into Game Pass subscribers

Agree. A few free battlepass seasons as a part of GPU would be nice.

I can see campaign expansions being free on GPU.

The multiplayer is free and you can get people to buy the battlepass and subscribe to Game Pass too. Its not one or the other.

Maybe a skin color or some other kind of perk to go along with it but I dont think the BP which will be the main revenue generator for the game will be included. They dont go it with Gears or any of the other xbox games and I dont think they will do it here.

Interesting. Which would mean that there are side monetization avenues – like buying customization packs. Or even things like Fractures that they are setting up.

I’m new to the battlepass terminology in general, and this would be interesting to get into an f2p-mp experience.

I dont think they will sell anything that cant be earned in game based on the multiplayer overview we got aside from the battle pass.

I just realized with “younger Cortana” being carried along by Master Chief, that Halo Infinite has the potential to reach the status of a sad dad simulator. BRING ON THE GOTY NOMINATIONS.

In all seriousness I am thinking about how teammates and opponents are marked. Because they’re not forcing you or opponents to adhere to a team colour like in most modern games It was hard for me to tell in the multiplayer video how they are going to solve this. I thought I saw a stencil outline of enemy characters in red. But it was really thin.

I have a problem with how Fortnite and Vigor handles this. They use arrows over teammate heads and when you are close to them you don’t see the arrow so you often shoot teammates (or in Vigor, because friendly fire is on, you don’t shoot at all). I forget how Warzone and Apex does it, I might have to install those again and check.

So I’m interested in how that is sorted out.

Enemies will be in that red outline you see in the videos. It works pretty well in Gears 5. And it seems like they playtested the game a lot already. I don’t think that something to worry about.

And tbh, I still shoot my team mates on the back in the old games, so it won’t really change anything… :doge:

One thing that as me thinking about the battlepass and being F2P is : what do GP suscribers get outside of the campaign ? Free tiers ?
