It happened to me too, it’s really annoying when it does.
Even soft rebooting things, Halo universe is really too interconnected and big on other medias to wipe out 90% things and start a new story like God of War for example, for how much entangled was the story after Halo 5, they did a good job in getting rid of badly received story bits. Also it’s the sixth mainline game of a 20 year series, people who believed in a blank slate were simply fools, come on. XD
I know and agree, as I mentioned above, the shitshow left behind after H5 had to be cleaned up some ways and Infinite wrapped up Cortana’s arc in a good place.
Yes, but that’s not their problem if the marketing was saying otherwise. Ultimately, I don’t blame anyone in this scenario.
That attitude is fair, but the bald guy from Fire Escape was saying “the game lost me with the dumbass Halo lore” and I’m like this guy can fuck off right away.
Defo didn’t think the story was perfect, but as a semi self-contained narrative I can thought it worked great. Dunk says some things here which are kinda inaccurate though I can’t blame him for feeling that way as Halo 5 bungled it so bad that it made it hard to follow.
Also I can’t say how much despise “Bungie lovers” nowadays, the original trilogy is epic, yeah, but Bungie handled the lore very badly, I think the expanded universe built mostly by 343 is very good, they simply made the mistake of trying to replace (at least partially) Chief and doing the mad AI plot with Cortana, without that I think even Prometheans would have been received better, considering also H5 corrected the bad AI gameplay and weapons feeling of H4. Those two games had great things completely erased by few, but key mistakes.
IMO H4 set up a new direction and sent off Cortana really well, but H5 shat all over what H4 accomplished narratively and majority of Infinite’s narrative had to be spent just cleaning up that debris.
I don’t know his name, sorry. But yeah, in the Fire Escape podcast, there is a bald guy, who has never played the older Halo games, and said something to the effect of “I was loving the game until they introduced all that dumbass [sic] Halo lore!!!”.
Like… What? You are angry because Halo Infinite references Halo lore? Lol
don’t even know who you’re talking about or the podcast either lol but that’s definitely a bit of a weird expectation. Sure you can have reservations against wanting better lore exposition through storytelling within the game itself, but outright dismissing it is uncharitable.
Yep, I can’t fathom why they did those choices in H5 story, going from a stellar send-off to Asimov’s AI revolution, my god. XD
The Didact also was not handled well, they mostly eliminated him off-screen in comics (leaving a open door anyway) because people still wanted Covenant enemies, lol, but the issue was H4 dumb AI movement, in H5 Prometheans enemy were great to fight (also the repeated Warden Eternal thing, lmao, why so many). Anyway, Forerunners are clearly still here and they re-used Sentinels from the og trilogy to keep fanboys calm, lol (it is also consistent with lore, Prometheans were deployed only by Didact or Warrior-Servants cast, Halos are controlled by monitors, loyal to Lifeworkers like the Librarian and/or Builders), but fighting a sentinel <<< fighting a knight or an armiger, it’s not even disputable.
The Didact was eliminated in Halo 4. For 99% of people the Didact was done in Halo 4. The people who criticize the comic haven’t even read it. It’s completely irrelevant what they do to him after Halo 4. His story was done. He had a plan, execute it, failed. There is nothing more you can do with the guy apart from repeating that. Next.
I mean, he can always return as a secondary enemy or within a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” scenario, it’s a common narrative trope. I think the most legendary Forerunner warrior dispatched like that is a waste, they built a hype behind Atriox which is the complete opposite and technically the one who would warrant it the most should have been the Didact. Anyway, the other thing which makes H5 the worst story is also not having a central enemy until the last part of the game, lol.
