Goldeneye 007 Achievements appear on TrueAchivements

Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and in my experience can definitely allow you to truly enjoy something which objectively isn’t as good as your level of enjoyment would indicate.

This is certainly true for movies for me, and I also play a fair few older games, so I’m thinking it might hold true there too. Although I’ve also had the experience of eagerly firing up an old favourite game, only to realize it’s aged so poorly I just couldn’t handle it.

I’m sure most of the excitement is based on fond memories (possibly involving some rose tinted glasses) and it remains to be seen if people’s level of excitement will hold once (if) they actually get a chance to play this.

Yeah it’s true. Some games age tremendously well. Two months ago I was at a game expo all about the last 70 years of gaming and I played Goldeneye on N64 there and it just didn’t do much for me anymore, whereas when I played Mario Bros on arcade cabinet it was just fun as hell.

If should land on Game Pass if it happens so I’ll try it out.

As for exclusivity, I don’t mind if Sony and Nintendo gamers get to play it too, but if MS wanted they can just keep it exclusive to Game Pass, can’t they?

I dont want it to be multi platform and if it is its just a missed opportunity by xbox just like with quake but ya I can see either opportunity as well.

Possibly. But licensing is a messy thing, and I wouldn’t be TOO surprised to see it ending up on Switch due to something to do with the original licensing agreement.

I’m pretty damned far from an expert though, just idle speculation based on nothing but my own observances.

so this news broke a few hours ago on new years/ eve slash day when people are normally busy. Even with that iv seen articles and twitter excitement for this game Xbox doesn’t have to many games that really hjit that nostagia button for people like say a lot of nintendo games do. Halo does for sure but not much else. This would be one of those games for them no matter how big or small it is people will love to play it. It also supports the narritive if its released on other consoles of xbox having no exclusives or they released this on another system so maybe all bethesda games will in the future which is a narritve a lot of people still cling to. I have a good friend who hates xbox who still clings to that help and when things like releasing quake or golden eye on other systems happen it supports that narritive which is getting old. just my opinion. anything xbox releases no matter where it ccame out for before should only release on pc/xbox/gamepass platforms/ screw nintendo or sony

The design is great and this version has a button remap like Rare Replay’s Perfect Dark. They also added some new stages to multiplayer. Lots of reasons to be excited.

The only thing in common between both games is the title. I can’t consider this a remake as I don’t consider Tomb Raider 2013 or Hitman 2016.

Remakes are games based on the original game built from ground up, remasters work with the original source code and assets to bring the game to new tech. At least this is how I name them and how the industry does before video games were a thing.

Yeah, using Hollywood vernacular Tomb Raider 2013 and Hitman 2016 would be reboots and not remakes. The difference being that remakes take the original story and film it again, but perhaps with some minor changes to modernize it. While a reboot takes the original concept and perhaps some bits of the original story, but not necessarily, and film it again.

In the games industry we’ve got remakes and remasters as you outlined, but neither Tomb Raider nor Hitman fit those descriptions, so I think we should start using the reboot term here too.

With the rights issues as messy as they are, I dont think its possible for it to be exclusive to xbox as Nintendo own some form of rights to the original, if it does release it pretty much has to on Switch as well

Playstation, thats where things are more debatable, when the XBLA remake was happening it was a 360/wii only thing, no mention of PS at all so it will be interesting if thats still the case

I don’t believe only Xbox will have a goldeneye because Nintendo actively worked to turn a restriction down in Germany, but my bet still is that XBLA version will be only on Xbox and the original N64 version will release on NSO.

IF XBLA releases on switch, I can dream back on a new Diddy Kong Racing collab game between them.

Kinda what I figured. Im not sure if what Kakka said is true as maybe nintendo and micosoft both own part of goldeneye so maybe thats why its happening but all these rare games going to switch is annoying yet no Nintendo games come to xbox and it just supports fanboy talking points from ps guys about xbox. Like I know once thats announced im gonna hear it from my friend

Did he gave more new information?

Thanks for posting this btw

So Remaster for Xbox/PC, N64 Version for NSO.

I could live with that.

Something else that (I think?) speaks to it coming out on Switch, is this achievement:

I’m assuming that’s in reference to Donkey Kong? I’ve barely played the original, so someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

But if I’m right, it seems the inclusion on Xbox of an achievement that involves Donkey Kong, must mean this is some kind of collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox.

Ill Allow It Spanish GIF

not what I want but its ok

DK mode is a big head mode and despite being a clear reference to Donkey Kong, doesn’t do it directly. I don’t believe this will be a legal issue.
