Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

So I did end up getting this, and after having played through the first couple of levels I can say I’m glad I did. You can definitely tell that it has its roots as a Super Mario Bros knock-off, and I mean that as a compliment.

It’s very much an old school side-scrolling platformer at heart, with modern pseudo-3D backgrounds and fun mechanics like switching between two different worlds with the press of a button. Each world being almost identical to the other one, but with tiny differences like the presence of a bridge or a platform, or collectible jewels.

The controls are spot on, the graphics and sound effects delightful, so If you’re jonesing for a simpler platforming experience in the vein of the original Super Mario games, or think you might have a hankering for that in the future, I can definitely recommend taking advantage of the current sale and spend $3 on Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.
