Gears |OT| All around me are familiar faces

Just gotta wait till they make 6 and figure it out from there at this point.

I agree. I liked Kait as a new character; they have to finish her story. After Gears 6 I would love to see the Coalition take a break from the franchise to experiment with something new. They are such a talented group. Gears 5 and the Hivebusters DLC looks stunning and runs so good.

Renamed the thread just so we funnel all the Gears talk in here

Was thinking of using Who Wants Toast as the line after OT tho lol.

Got my friend to download Gears UE so this gives me an excuse to revisit the original games in co-op again. Hope he likes the franchise!

Unless im missing the OT for it, I will post this question here regarding Gears Tactics -

Reading up on the game, it seems like you’re required to complete a set amount of side quests in order to advance in the main story campaign? Is this true? Is there a way around this? Thanks.

Yep, it’s true. Between story missions, you may have to complete several side missions in order to progress. They’re quite repetitive but they aren’t too long either.

Disappointing Splash Damage chose to do that as I just wanted to play through the story missions. Will still play it once I finish Immortals but not as hyped as I was before. Oh well. Thanks.

Finished replaying Gears Ultimate Edition over the weekend. Visually still looks good but very glitchy and odd at times with 2 crashes along the way.

Started Gears 2 last night and for some reason the game has better shooting/hit detection that a remaster lol. But you can clearly see the direction to make it more cinematic right off the bat by giving the characters aside from Baird and Dom some personality particularly Marcus.

Finally started Gears Tactics. I am usually not the type for slower paced games so I hesitated starting this but I gotta to give it to the developers, this is great fun! I am in the middle of chapter 2 right now. I really enjoy the core gameplay loop and this whole figuring out how to use your action points in a smart way to push your gears that needed extra step to get the advantage over the enemy. It really is tactical and a lot of fun. The 2nd most enjoyable thing about this game is building your gears between missions. There is a great variety of customization, gameplay and cosmetics, each feel cool and cohesive with the gears universe. The cutscenes are also really well made and there is a lot of them. Not quite Gears 5 niveau but still very enjoyable. This is genuinely a good game and maybe could be a way forward for the franchise. I would love to see them expand on that formula and who knows maybe one day the tactics series overtakes the core franchise like Forza Horizon did with Motorsport. I am really happy to see that this is not just a spinoff cash grab but a great tactics game.

So I definitely recommend checking this one out. It’s also on Game Pass so there is almosy no entry barrier.

Yep, definitely a very good game, despite the repetitive side missions. I did like the customization, but only for the main characters, as the game doesn’t really give you an incentive to invest in the random troops, as they get surpassed once another batch is available to recruit.

Hopefully, it’s done well enough to get a sequel.

Gears 2 still looks great to this day (Series X)

Still a looker to this day. Surprisingly I find this game to play and feel a lot better than the 2014 UE of Gears 1.

Gears 2 is such a great game.

It was an absolute stunner on release as well. One of those rare occasions when I actually did show a game’s visuals off to friends.

Its such a step up in everything from Gears 1. Its crazy how good it looks and plays to this day.

I still remember getting Gears 2 on launch day like it was yesterday. The hype was crazy and the series felt like it was on top of the world.

This is one of the greatest things about the new XCom too, random team members from different countries, that you build up between missions and tweak to your perfect squad, only to be truly heartbroken when one whiffs a 90% shot and is downed by an an enemy.

Yet another game I have on my playlist

Here is an excellent post about the health of Gears 5:

Great post, indeed. I’d like to see the Coalition tackle a new IP someday, but Gears isn’t dead. Far from it. There’s absolutely no reason to kill it off right now.

Think it depends on how the next game is received/sells.

I’m assuming Gears 6 will wrap up the current story of this trilogy. So after that, I guess they’ll decide whether they want to continue with Gears or give it a break or something. I’m good with either decision.
