Gears Discussion Thread: What should the future of the series be?

its the 9th game …

man did this game tank that badly? Its always $5-$10

I nevet even got around to playing it with Game Pass

Ive tried but the decision to force you to do side missions before doing story content has turned me off numerous times.

indeed, gears is the market leader

it would need to be completely f2p which coming from a company that charges for lip synching cutscenes isn’t likely, pretty much every playstation game has smaller communities then xbox game studios

if its free with tlou2 its dead, if its sold separately, its very dead

id be shocked if factions 2 could even compete with GROUNDEDs community

exactly, copying lou2 is like taking an elite controller and smashing it with a hammer, it might work, but its a step backwards in every way

naughty dog focuses on games that play themselves, they don’t have mechanics to copy…just qtes!

sony needs to buck their ideas up imo…is there even a lou2 multiplayer event equivalent to gearscon and halofest?

agreed

Gears 6 needs the Halo Infinite treatment.

Release a stand alone Single player and Co-op Campaign with Horde Mode that can be expanded with content or dlc and a free to play Multiplayer launching a long side it.

No

No its not in the slightest

LMAOOOOOOOOOOO

Please stop the trolling its embarrassing.

It was a $39 game. Even $60 games get down to $10.

But the game probably didn’t do that well, who knows.

This is probably the correct answer.

You cant convince me that this guy isnt trolling .

Just look at his responses :skull:

yikes

im sure theres a couple of posters here who are doing just that

gears continued existance riles them up from the looks of it

some guys just cant get over it lol!

then a typical gears game with f2p multiplayer? so business as usual.

What I find ridiculous is people here thinking that TLOU2’s multiplayer, which will have released two years post-launch at the earliest, is even comparable to Gears popularity… especially when all previous multiplayer attempts from ND have dropped off quicker than Bleeding Edge. Sony clearly sees the same result, otherwise it would have been given a greater priority/budget.

I’m fine with people having different opinions, but pretending a game that still sets the standard for third-person shooting gameplay, and still sees a fervent fanbase, is dead or needs to completely change its identity to succeed is factually baseless.

Anyone who says that Gears need to be something else doesn’t seem to ever liked the series in the first place IMO. The Coalition can improve the next game in a lot of ways but still retain the core pillars of what makes Gears well Gears…new approaches and improvements on level design, enemy AI, physics, weather effects, verticality can freshen things up enough without turning Gears into something entirely different.

Wait someone said a game(TLOU2 Factions) which no one have seen a peep of is gonna be better than gears 5 multiplayer. Lol best joke i’ve heard in years

Yep, and this idea that Gears 1 was a “horror” game because it had a single section which tangentially straddled an atmosphere of “horror”…. Okay.

edit: reply to @howlingmosquito “so a typical gears game” Not a typical gears game, like Halo infinite. Open world to explore with engaging AI enemies. Branching story lines and hopefully expanding story content through dlc.

  • better to think of the multiplayer as a separate game entirely and not a “missing piece” of TLOU2.

Knottian what popularity? The series is on a clear decline even if it has its minute fanbase. People like it sure but it literally moves 0 needle at xbox and is not even in the most played games anymore besides maybe the mexico region.

They literally are funding a full separate standalone multiplayer game so this is not correct and disingenuous.
