Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

So far, they all have a 60fps mode. A few like Miles and Ratchet with Ray Tracing at 60fps in which both look excellent. Even AA titles like The Ascent or Kena look great at 60fps.

I’m expecting Redfall, Hellblade 2 and pretty much all of them to have a 60fps mode. They’ll lower resolution if needed. I’ll always take a hit in resolution in exchange for 60fps.

Halo Infinite looked great when you’re on foot. In the air, not so much because of the trees. I think if they would have made the trees bigger and fuller, it would look much better from above and not look as empty. Otherwise though, I was satisfied. Of course, after the 2020 showing, I knew not to expect top tier visuals.

Ninja Theory, Playground, The Coalition, The Initiative, Machine Games, Tango Gameworks along with Turn 10 are all studios that should have excellent looking visuals.

Just have to wait and see.

Huh, hold on, that isn’t even remotely what I said. In fact I basically said that I will put my expectations at 30fps, not 60fps. What I meant with that I don’t agree with DF is that the top quality gameplay can make you overlook/accept performance hiccups. A steady framerate of 30fps at least should not be too much to ask, no matter how good the gameplay is.

That being said, a optional performance mode like AC Valhalla has which is dynamic 4K/60fps would be really nice to have. 30fps in first person especially is going to be jarring after SO many 60fps games. But it’s gonna depend on how their implementation feels, because 30fps is extremely doable. Even after I came straight back from Insurgency Sandstorm which is 60fps it was perfectly playable in RDR2.

When so many games can run 60fps with dynamic 4K,i hope Starfield can too, but like you said, it’s current gen only, big leap over their previous games. It’s also a totally different engine than something like AC Valhalla, which is also a cross gen game. Plus we already know Todd aims for the visuals, I don’t see a performance mode as a given. But we just have to wait and see.

60 FPS has been the biggest leap of the next gen consoles, taking that away and regressing back to 30 fps after a 3 year run of 60 fps being the standard might be wishful thinking.

I think some games will have to settle for 30 fps but I don’t think it’ll be the norm again.

I just have to wonder why exactly do we have to settle for 30fps on 1st party games, when Microsoft can have their devs prioritize using VRS tier 2 to achieve it with a great visual Fidelity? Using FSR2.0? VRR to smooth out frame times? Maybe even Microsofts own super resolution technology when it launches?

These are all the hings that we seen can be done post launch too.

In the case of Starfield that tech may not be implemented into the engine yet but I would think more of those will be adopted over the lifetime of the console generation.

I can see that, I guess I figured with Id as one of the studios working with Zenimax, they would consult them to help implement those changes like they did with fire arms in Fallout 4.

We will very likely still receive 30fps 1st party games. To reach a target framerate, both the GPU and CPU need to be done processing the frame in time. So if a game is complex enough that it pushes the CPU hard, it won’t matter if the game runs at 480p and looks like a Dreamcast game, it’ll still run at less than 60fps. Adjusting graphical settings unfortunately doesn’t always guarantee they’ll be able to hit 60fps.

I’d prefer they do a super quick sizzle reel for the ongoing games and end that trailer with ‘deep dive at the follow up showcase!’. I get the position that these are huge fanbases and they might wanna see new stuff but you can get their attn and redirect them to the follow up showcase with a short minute long sizzle reel w/o wasting so much stage time on the main showcase. Sure, it’s not a huge amount of screen time maybe (more like 10 minutes compared to 5 tho), but in that ten minutes they could shown other stuff that woulda been the difference between a merely ok show and a great show.

Also, they should make the effort to state the games are running on XSX (and make the effort to make that the standard platform for showing gameplay on their console games). It’s just more transparent that way and adds to a sense of information consistency. Sony does it and it helps them tremendously, so Xbox should follow suit.

In total, they spent around 10 minutes on DLC add on content for existing games. I think it’s important to consider the audience for the specific, individual announcements and MS could do better there. SoT isn’t targeting hardcore gamers or hardcore Xbox fans for the new content. Same goes for most of their DLC content showcased there. It’s a widely held criticism of the showcase that the ongoing games segments were boring, so clearly from a macro level that aspect of the presentation has room for improvement.

I’d argue this event isn’t gonna have an audience that aligns well with ‘new customers’ in that sense. It’s hardcore gamers watching these showcases first and foremost, and they/we already know about all these games. To cover that edge case of the casual that these GaaS titles are targeting who are also potential new customers, use a super short sizzle reel saying more info will be shown at the extended showcase instead.

Errr…wat. No. There is a LOT happening in Starfield wrt CPU utilization I’d wager.

You lost me all when you wish to ban the Hot Wheels DLC from the show, smh.

Is this a widely held criticism from the Xbox forum participants and Podcaster that think the show was a C, or the overwhelmingly positive people responding to IGN and Keighley polls?

This show wasn’t just for us.

Hey to be fair, that’s the one DLC I think should have been at the main show lol.

The folks who actually hold influence over the broader brand image, the content creators, pretty universally agree that those segments were the weak spots. Not just them either, but tons of Xbox fans feel the same way. Note that those polls you referenced didn’t ask if those DLC segments resonated with viewers.

The casual audience that these DLC’s target isn’t watching the showcase for the most part. For the few who do, add a sizzle trailer to redirect them to the extended showcase like I said already. You get far more mileage branding-wise from a hardcore fanbase hyped to 11 talking about how great a showcase was than you do with a few DLC items thrown into the mix.

Lmao!

I gave the showcase a C grade or 6.0/10 but not because of the ongoing games being shown. It was simply due to the fact that out of 30 games shown, only 5 of them were for me and no new game reveals.

Showcase was for those who only care about Game Pass. This isn’t me whatsoever. I like Game Pass but it’s not the be all end all, at least not for me anyway. The ongoing games make sense because they have tens of millions of players but would I prefer to see a different game instead? Absolutely because then there’s a chance that other game might be for me where as Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online aren’t for me whatsoever.

No one is moving any goalposts. This doesn’t even make sense in context of the conversation.

Actually, I’ve agree with what you’re saying a few post back, the gif was meant to other posts.

All gifs on this forum should be banned except for Starfield gifs…
