Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

But does DF cover HDR at all?

I watch his channel for the settings, those often are quite helpful. But that Spidey thing, yeah that’s not good.

This video highlights one of the issues I have with ElAnalistaDeBits. They are rather hit or miss on the pixel counts. They claimed AC Origins was regularly 4K on the SX but unfortunately that’s not the case.

Still a welcome improvement.

Still big delta over PS5… He does mention most of the time… The game is very large and he may have not tested more areas maybe

Thing is I don’t care about the delta over the PS5. I don’t watch these videos so I can see if my preferred system gets a win. I watch these videos because I’m interested in the tech running these games. I just hope that they improve their analysis one of these days because they have been off plenty of times on the counts. You can see from VG Techs pixel count images that you don’t need to go far in the game to see it doesn’t hit 4K often.

Steam Deck vs Xbox Series S: Can Valve’s Portable Match The Entry-Level Next-Gen Console?

Only got through the Cyberpunk section, but one thing I thought about when seeing the steam deck popularity is that it would mean that Series S would get better support in the future. Seeing DF trying to get Series S like settings is just making that thought even more of a reality. Now to see how the rest of the video goes.

Good look at the improvements. The environments are especially impressive compared to previous entries.

I don’t think he realizes that Forza 7 also uses photogrammetry though.

Was just going to post this lol. Kind of disappointed in the performance of RT mode.

It’s also surprising that DRS is apparently in play here? I don’t recall another RE Engine game using it, even on the switch. If DRS is being used, it’s not working correctly or we’d see fewer and less severe drops.

Of all the titles I’ve wanted to do an analysis video on, this update ranks at the top. I hate not having access to all my equipment to produce videos again.

Good loading times!

What’s the TLDW on Resi?

Resolutions (Every version looks to be using reconstruction and DRS):

Series X: Targets 4K

  • Non-RT: Typically 2160p
  • RT Mode: Typically 2160p
  • Performance Mode: Typically 2160p

Series S: Targets 1440p

  • Non-RT: Typically 1260p
  • RT Mode: Typically 1152p
  • Performance Mode: Typically 1260p

PS5: Targets 4K

  • Non-RT: Typically 2160p
  • RT Mode: Typically 2016p
  • Performance Mode: Typically 2088p

Load Times (Thanks Khalid117x!):

Performance:

  • Non-RT mode runs locked 60fps on all platforms outside of some single frame dips, probably from streaming in data.
  • RT mode will run between mid-40s to 60fps. Sometimes the PS5 has an advantage, sometimes the Series X will.
  • Performance mode runs between low 80s to 120fps. The Series X seems to have a slight advantage, especially in RE3.

Oddly, he didn’t do any performance tests with RE7.

As I was actually typing these figures out, there’s definitely something off here. Makes no sense to see both non-RT and performance mode running at the same resolution on the Series S. It could make sense on the Series X if there were enough overhead from non-RT mode to performance mode to run at the same resolution (even that’s doubtful though) but the Series S numbers are especially odd. Either his pixel counts are off again, DRS is broken in this game, or both.

The resolution numbers are probably reconstructed pixel counts. We don’t know the base resolution (stuff DF usually checks) but I’m not sure how important that really is. If the reconstruction method is good the final output is more important. I think the subjective perception is important here. I always thought RE Engine games look very nice on a 4k Screen.

You’re probably right, but even then the figures shouldn’t be the same. It’d be one thing if the Series S hit 1440p in non-RT mode and a lower resolution in performance mode, but for them to both be the same, that makes no sense when you consider performance mode cuts the rendering time in half (16.6ms per frame for 60fps vs. 8.3ms for 120fps). Probably best to wait for VG Tech or DF because there is something wrong with this analysis.

Watched the entire thing.

What they say?

95 minutes long, they said a lot. Honestly, I didn’t enjoy my time watching it.
