So what’s the real reason then since you seem to know what goes on behind the scenes?
I don’t know and I don’t care either, am just find his excuse too convenient , that’s all.
But, I wont comment anymore on the situation, because I see it bother some of you.
None of these DF dudes are above criticism in how they do analysis. So stop sending out those green messages when we do.
As primarily an Xbox fan and user, I’ve found I simply don’t watch many of their videos anymore.
While not a bias persay, the channel clearly prioritizes comparing with Playstation when they only have the time for one console. I imagine it leads to better metrics for them.
That’s okay, though it does mean I’ll be watching less and less of their content.
At this point, its fairly safe to assume the Xbox Series X performs on par or better than the PS5. So comparisons of PC against Xbox Series X won’t really provide as much information for half the console enthusiast base. It doesnt indicate the potential further compromises required for the PS5. That is why picking PC and PS5 makes reasonable sense to me. Gamers who own only Series S aren’t really the target demographics of game analysis videos.
That’s simply how things are.
Making up conspiracy stories of bias for every member of the team is nothing more than projecting. Instead of considering the plethora of other possibilities that are more likely, defaulting to talks of agendas or biased is toxic to the thread. I’ve seen what happens in countless other threads where this festers. People high five each other when their plastic box of choice gets a “W” or they cry of bias when it doesn’t. Or even worse, they cry of bias when the content creator isn’t enough of a cheerleader for their favorite plastic box, even if it wins, exactly what we saw surrounding the dialogue about star wars. The content itself isn’t criticized, it’s not discussed, nothing is gained, and instead it’s a constant attack to the people or a circle jerk for plastic winning. I’ve said it before, countless times, if someone criticizes a video and expressed they wished something was handled differently, that’s more than fair. However that’s not what’s happening, and some are so focused on how horrible they think these people are, that they aren’t understanding that point.
There’s a reason this nonsense isn’t allowed in other respectable forums like B3D. People have countless other places where they can share their grievances or conspiracy theories about the people. We have a stance against going after people in the media here. I’m not going to look past that because my preferred system doesn’t always win.
It has been the same case with me, even though I am a PC player. I just find the analysis unappealing now. They are just all over the place. And day by day its becoming more apparent that they just like the typical journalists are in it for the money/clicks rather than some sense of integrity.
That’s not true when a PS5 vs XSX The Ascent that’s much older has less views than the Chernobylite video. People care about PC performance and Raytracing. Classic DOOM with RT has immense views. You can see their recent uploads and see your claim is not true.
Edit: idk what happened with the reply target
Chernobylite is a new game though, while The Ascent was already compared with PC in the past…
Exactly!
Chernobylite isn’t a new game, it’s been out for a long time. It’s a new graphics patch. And that wasn’t the original claim anyway.
Anyway, to those who want to see Xbox Series and PS5 comparison videos more often, I’ve recommend the El Analista de Bits channel, he does a good job, so give him a follow on twitter and YouTube.
Why not just tell your audience upfront what you are doing and what you are not and why ?
I get Alex feel tired of fanboys, but it’s been like that for at least 10 years. If you can’t change people, you have to adapt and change yourself. That’s how I see it.
I guess the problem is the assumption that the reason for PS5 only comparison is because it’s the superior. That’s the narrative people could see, intentional or not.
I recently got a chance to watch some of the Forge leak videos, and it truly looks like everything is rendered in a manner that will allow Forge maps to look as good as the 343 maps.
It looks like we have real-time shadows from the sunlight, quickly baked lighting data from artificial lights that apply to static meshes. And then have GI that applies to static meshes.
Here is the video that I’m basing my observations on:
My question now is whether you could have changing time of day in these maps where the GI would be recalculated as the sun moves. This is where I got it wrong many months ago thinking that it was screen space (when the reality was it was the lightbleed from edges of my cheap LCD screen ).
Even if there is no time of day support, that leaked footage shows that we could have thousands of maps that look just as good as packed in maps in September.
I personally think all of this is technically impressive. 343 took a bit of a risk here because they could have made an extremely linear campaign with some of the best visuals in the industry, along with maps with some of the best visuals. But they decided to sacrifice some graphical fidelity to create an engine and tools that puts power into the hands of gamers. And the end result still looks pretty good and performs extremely well on a lot of hardware.
Didn’t Forge in Halo 5 already had GI recalculated on the fly? Can’t remember.
I haven’t used it but I’ve watched some videos years ago, and it looks like low res shadows and GI data was calculated when you placed the static object.
Expert opinion would be appreciated!
