Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

Actually it is. It’s probably because I log in to YouTube with my Google account and it then uses my real name. I never really thought about changing it. But at the same time I never ever use my real name anywhere else, hmmm.

Ha ha, I meant removing the image so we degenerates don’t know your real name.

Oooh, hahah, like that. Nah, I don’t see the harm in it really. Y’all good peoples.

VRS would not really help with the raytracing. Nobody is doing RT at native resolution on consoles anyway.

But VRS and dynamic resolution should help Forza Motorsport be more efficient with rendering ressources. Remember, both these techniques were not used before by Turn 10 for their games.

That’s insane!

It makes me wish Xbox had opted for 4 lanes of PCI-E 4.0 instead of just 2 lanes.

That said I’m sure the speed difference will narrow once the new Xbox GDK is utilised.

Here’s the full video (skip to 58 seconds)

I remember GT7 looked sometimes downright bad, one particular part really got used as a meme too I remember. To be honest, that really did indeed look rather bad. Have they fixed this, does it look better?

I don’t think it makes much of a difference, as this game is just loading in one race track and other cars, once Forza Motorsports launches than we can have a proper comparison of each system loading in a single track with the best that their ssd can offer.

It’s probably not even loading in one race track, they probably have a streaming system implemented.

No, the environment still looks subpar…unless you are planning to spend the entire time in replay mode.

Maybe, but even Insomniac who I think is the best studio Sony has, couldn’t do it with R&C, as bugs revealed that they were loading in multiple stages at once. So it’s kind of hard to imagine that any other studio under Sony would do it first.

Did they ever fix the bug that made raytracing not work in Little Nightmares 2? I could swear I read it was added/fixed but I’m talking to someone right now and he claims the developers never did that.

Considering the sacrifices Sony made elsewhere in order to get that SSD in there, I personally think Xbox made the right choice.

For the current generation, Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart have the best of both worlds, Ray Tracing at 60FPS using the Performance RT mode and both games look and play amazing. Watch Dogs Legion had good RT but it was locked at 30FPS and the game is nowhere near the level of Miles/Ratchet in general so it kind of fell flat.

If there’s one game that has Ray Tracing in it which is extremely impressive, it’s Metro Exodus. Granted, it’s a last generation game but damn, does it look superb. I don’t know if there’s a Performance RT mode though.

Unless there’s a Performance RT mode available, I sacrifice RT in favor of 60FPS. Also, it depends on what the RT is being used for. All I really care about is RT Reflections as the rest of the stuff isn’t enough to make me sacrifice 60FPS. RT Reflections would make me decide but thankfully, I haven’t had that decision to make yet as both Miles/Ratchet had Performance RT modes when I played them, WD Legion had only one mode and everything else isn’t impressive enough to sacrifice 60FPS in my opinion.

I think that person means in regards to new releases. Microsoft hasn’t had any new release with Ray Tracing during gameplay yet while Sony has had a few of their exclusives with Ray Tracing. Third parties have been underwhelming at best. When the best RT third party games are from last generation like Metro Exodus and Control, that should probably tell you something.

Wow indeed. 1.50 seconds. Holy shit!!!

I agree completely. However, I would have liked to see the RAM be set at 12GB @560GB/sec instead of 10GB. But no biggie.

If Sony does PS5 Pro, my prediction remains the same as it’s been for two years - the CPU/GPU will be fixed as opposed to variable speeds.

Yep, hopefully it will incorporate some of the new tools such as Sampler Feedback Streaming.

Hopefully we see something from Turn 10 soon :slightly_smiling_face:

Problem is that example which you can download and run off github is it’s an upscaled pre captured video to 1080p. It’s not running an actual game which requires its own resources simultaneously. That’s what makes me skeptical. In his example nearly the entire frametime budget for 60 fps is spent on this processing of a 540-1080p video capture.

You should see Cyberpunk on pc…man it seems like a completely different game than its console counterpart.

Dying light 2, metro exodus and control on PC are also freaking impressive visually speaking. Overall I feel games that will squeeze raytracing on these consoles are their exclusives while third party games will use Nvidia (not AMD) features to their maximum capabilities (DLSS is some serious Black magic sh1t).

I will also be curious on how PS5 exclusives will perform on PC when they inevitable launch on the platform. Like, imagine GT7 supporting RT while playing the game (and not just seeing replays :p)

Agreed.

But we have “data” on how XeSS performs without dedicated tensor core - like hardware, right?

Emphasis on quotes because I don’t think we have anything from non Intel sources.

It’ll all certainly help as long as they use it. FM does have the advantage of being a current gen exclusive, with years of development by a highly skilled team. So I’m sure it’ll look amazing.
