Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

Nah. 3rd parties will eventually use it as we go into the second half of the gen and developers have to start squeezing every last drop of power in order to meet their vision.

Usually I can see where DF is coming from, but not this time. He’s really impressed with the visuals. I agree that some of the lighting indoors is nice but those exteriors are very underwhelming in my opinion.

This game is a mess… And it’s all on Form software

Alex does not recommended playing this game on PC

Stutters will be experienced whenever there are new assets in the scene to be rendered

Not even i9 and 3090 could help here

Poor optimisation from Devs on this game

Xbox VRR could be the only best option to play this game

Damn… Not a single game could come out clean these days

What sort of things does everyone think FromSoft can do to fix this games technical woes?

Now this isn’t what I think FromSoft can do, but it’s what technical developers have done when given the time and resources to do so:

  • Improve loading time on Series X so it no longer loads slower than a PS4
  • Remove all forms of hitching and stuttering (possibly from on-the-fly Shader Compiling on PC)
  • Remove or Limit the vast majority of frame drops from 60
  • Performance should scale with hardware, when it doesn’t is indicator there is some bottleneck that needs to be resolved (even with the 60 FPs Limiter removed it doesn’t scale)

I haven’t been keeping up-to-date with the game since launch, but does it really load slower than a PS4 lol?

Im going off this post by Gavin. Also in general there is so much overhead on PC that any I/O loading using even a 2x faster NVME would be slower than loading of Series X. So seeing EldenRing loading on Series X slower than PC using SATA hard drive is huge Red Flag.

I like how the environment is partly interactive, unlike the static environments of say RE 8 and Call Of Duty games. The character models were poor mind.

Seems from forgot to optimize for everyone except the ps4 :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s strange AF. All we can do is hope they’ll do it now that the game has been released.

If people are right in the comment section that VRR is now coming soon, it has been patched for Sony TVs is what I’m reading, this would make ER the very best on PS5. Loading times of 7 seconds on PS5 whereas it’s 20 for Xbox. How sway? I’m sorry, I’m just flabbergasted.

And in my opinion right now not deserving of my money. Really hope they take it all seriously and fix it.

Basically this gen if you have VRR - go for Xbox.

Longer loading times on XSX are more like the exception and not the rule, right? Just saw comments that RE8 had significantly faster loading on PS5 as well, but I can’t think of many others.

Nope it was like a couple of seconds at most

I would suggest anyone to refrain from ā€œconsole warsā€ as this is clealy just bad optimisation on From’s part.

Shamr I cant play this on PC

The usual for most games is within 2-3 seconds, some games even load faster on Series X, some load faster on PS5. Its a non-event when properly optimized for the platforms. Its only the titles where devs lacked the knowledge or the time to properly implement that gets the attention from the condole warriors.

Yeah I’m seeing some real false claims in the comment section of the DF video. That most games on PS5 load faster, that this is nothing new, and that only backcompat games load faster on Xbox.

But I could swear Xbox has even been in the lead with some games, not just backcompat. And in the cases PS5 was taking the lead it was barely a difference. This is entirely on From here. Resolution and framerate too, but I guess we can say that for PS and PC too.

Apparently RE8 was 2 seconds on PS5 and 8 on Xbox, but that’s a big difference between the 7 and 20 in Elden Ring. RE8 is acceptable, ER isn’t.

As I said, dont pay attention to those claims. Everyone stating things like that are doing so in bad faith (no surprising of course)

Its like saying the 3080-3090 are shit cards because elden ring cant run on 60 fps on thosr cards…

good that they ditched the ā€œworld’s most powerful consoleā€ or ā€œmost powerful Xbox everā€ thing though 12t vs 10.2t, etc. almost 2 years after launch, things are balanced and in some cases, the ā€œworst versionā€ was the Xbox Series.

we’ll see how it goes in the next few years. especially the Xbox Series S.

one thing i’m curious about is DirectML Super Resolution. is this still happening? :chief_think:

The other day I was discussing raytracing so far on the consoles and that in my opinion it isn’t really all that worth it, not if it means having to make significant cuts elsewhere. Now I haven’t see Guardians of the Galaxy yet which I think was said to have nice raytracing, and it’s nice in WDL too, but the 30fps is not nice, lol.

Haven’t gotten far enough yet in Control. We also have yet to see a Xbox exclusive with raytracing and I wonder which of the studios could be the first to do this and with what game. The discussion I had led to shit like PS5 has all these raytracing games, where is Xbox? So I said…well let’s see…WDL, Control, Observer, GotG have raytracing on Xbox, just not exclusives yet.

They really like to praise PS5 to the high heavens for raytracing, but isn’t it mostly Spidey MM as exclusive that has raytracing? Oh and Ratchet. Isn’t that about it?

first, Insomniac Games is awesome :blue_heart: and second, FH5 has Raytracing. but… only in Forza Vista. 343i said it will put RT on Infinite in the near future. i hope the new Forza Motorsport is the technical showcase for Xbox Series X|S and Windows 11. we’ll see

Hellblade 1 has RT too.
