Alex with a tweet here presumably a response to some of the conspiracy stuff. He’s spot on here. The differences between consoles are now so academic that making that a major focus of a video does seem very pointless. You have people clamoring for wins to be declared over a frame or two here or there (that in many cases might not even be repeatable) and resolution differences that again often can’t be measured completely accurately given the dynamic nature and more complex AA and reconstruction methods. Stuff has moved on from the days of the 360/PS3 where in fairness you had very different tech that often produced very different results (the PS3 was technically more powerful but rarely showed it) so was a fascinating look.
Honestly Im more looking forward to alex, richard or john talking more on the implementations of VRS , mesh shading, ML and ray tracing on consoles. Thats what I wanna see because thats like future techniques that are yet to be implemented. The small frame dip here and there and slight resolution differences\ have become really boring.
Yeah same here. I’d like to see more stuff on VRS which we’ve already seen on console and then looking towards the future stuff too.
I think RT is going to be so limited on consoles this gen as obviously the AMD stuff just isn’t as performant and then you have the RAM issues - so I suspect RT will be something that’s not seen in many games. We already see FC6 cutting it and potentially GoTG (which has it on PC but not mentioned console RT for a while).
I believe RT will be used in combination with ML super res to make up for what RDNA 2 is lacking for ray tracing. Cant wait for the first game to implement that. Might just be Minecraft RTX
You’re talking about a technique that doesn’t exist yet though. We know MS and AMD are working on it but - bit early to suggest it will beef up RT possibilities.
True, just a thought on how they can maybe tackle the issue
This is why focusing on who gets a W or L is silly imo. It’s not like it was the PS360 days where we could have one version run like crap. Discussing why the results may be the way they are is far more fascinating. Especially when there is almost never a bad version of these games, which is ultimately a good thing.
Anything interesting?
Drops fewer frames and less often on Series X but using flares causes screen tearing.
PS5 isn’t as steady but doesn’t have the screen tearing issue.
And PS5 has more VSync Jutter.
The new consoles are radically improved. 60fps is the rule, but there are exceptions - big battles using the flare gun, for example, pull performance down to the 50s, and very, very occasionally under that. It’s not a total deal-breaker but still, a surprise that the most powerful consoles on the market can’t quite cut it. Both Xbox Series console also exhibit some tearing at the top of the screen. PS5 seems to behave similarly to Series X, the difference being that there’s no tearing but a slightly higher degree of v-sync stutter. All round, it’s a decent showing a majority of the time on all three machines - just don’t expect a rock-solid lock at 60fps here, as things currently stand.
Would much rather have tearing than judder. However I’m shocked this isn’t locked to 60 on both machines. Very weird.
Yep. Especially as they went with 1440p. Guess that old engine is just very taxing and limited in what it can deliver.
Clearly, proper care isn’t given to this title.
It’s more like milking it with very little of the budget and time frame
So the same thing they did with Control.
This is exactly why I’m jaded against all remasters/remakes including GTA. Too many shoddy titles. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.
Also no HDR in a game about light and darkness is a crime on its own. Gonna pass on this one
i guess 4x MSAA is not the ideal solution for the bandwidth in these consoles, so we get only 1440p.
Always thought the Alan Wake remaster would be a cashgrab to sell the game to non-Xbox users with minimal investment, not surprised it kind of sucks. Will keep my backwards-compatible 360 copy, thanks.
