The thing about the PS5 SSD is that we will not have anything to compare it to no? Cant run Ratchet on xbox to compare for example in the same way we cant run Gears over there.

That would imply that existing games fully utilize the SSDs in these consoles, which isn’t the case. There is a good chance this slower SSD would run into issues with games that better utilize the hardware.

Yup but it’s more fun to speculate on conspiracy theories it seems.

This thread should be renamed because some are more focused on speculation, console warring, and conspiracy theories instead of actual technology.

Most of it is based on the clearly misleading marketing that Sony is excellent at. They knew they had a power deficit so they pushed magical SSD performance and exclusive 3D audio as things no one could match. Things that would, from the very beginning, make the PS5 a much more compelling product than anything else. The reality of it is that like most things, it’s just marketing and when people finally realize that it’s fun to talk about.

Well… We will be able to once these games start releasing on PC because we know the speeds of these SSDs lol.

As if focusing on the areas your product excels at is exclusive to Sony. MS did the same thing with the Xbox One, as does Nintendo.

What I wonder is what does marketing strategies have anything to do with technology? Instead of understanding that this DF video doesn’t mean much on the theoretical limits of the PS5 SSD, let’s dive into Sony bashing because that’s productive towards any understanding of technology or what this thread should be about.

People taking this opportunity to go that direction is pure nonsense and destructive.

DF should test an even slower one

I want one

Likely doesn’t exist since they need to be PCI-E 4 to be recognized. I don’t think anyone makes anything slower simply because they wouldn’t get sales.

Why the whataboutism? We’re talking specifically about the Sony claim that their PS5’s SSD produces results that only a few “authorized” drives can replicate, this video disproves that. Ratchet and Clank was also heavily marketed as an experience only made possible because of said marketing scam, and given that this game was built as a next-gen exclusive it’s fair to assess it on such merits, this again disproves that as well.

mhmm, the one in my laptop is a bit slower i believe. i have to check.

There was a Sony developer in a podcast few months ago who confirmed that it would run.

“dive into Sony bashing” not sure anyone is doing that, more just laughing at those who fall so hard for marketing

Xbox SX SSD is PCIe Gen 4 for example but doesn’t utilise the bandwidth.

I think OP menat that RC will always be an PS exclusive and will never come to Xbox so that a side by side comparison could never be possible.

Well it’s clear that games won’t fully utilize the SSD at least in the next few years, maybe towards the end of the generation we might see something transformative but till then the SSD looks like a regular gen 4 ssd that still even stutters ever so slightly

Let’s be honest, some are taking this opportunity to console war. Instead of discussing the results of the video and why they may be the way they are, they are latching onto low hanging fruit and I prefer we not promote this behavior.

How silly will these posts, including your defense of all this, if future games run into issues on these slower drives?

We’ve had plenty of conversations on how it’s going to take time to properly utilize these new systems but now we’re going to push the narrative that the SSDs in either system is being pushed to the limit now?

And again I have to ask what does marketing have anything to do with this thread or the DF video? That is unless someone is looking for reasons to console bash?

Trying to put out fire which was never there

And it backfires

Lol

And why even take the topic in that direction when it’s not necessary? None of this has anything to do with game technology. @Senua’s post could have been discussed without even bringing marketing into this.
