Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

Or when skillup lamented that Deaths Door was locked to xbox ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Guys please stop with the speculations on people. Who cares who calls Deathloop a PS5 exclusive, especially when right now it is. The “timed” distinction isn’t always done and doesn’t always have to be done. Let’s keep this thread about tech, what it should be about.

Thanks.

Seems Austin Evans was right. New PS5 model is indeed hotter and louder, but only by a bit. Also not notably different for game perf yet.

Also, GT7 has no in-game RT:

" Mr. Yamauchi: For the time being, you can choose ray tracing in the replay even during the game, and then you can see the stage demo and the picture with ray tracing applied in the garage."

HFW PS5-specific features seem pretty tame too, basically the PS4 version at higher res/fps and better water:

  • Fast loading: Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PS5 console’s ultra high-speed SSD and fast load times.
  • Stunning visuals: Experience the vast world of Horizon Forbidden West in stunning 4K and HDR.* From mountain tops to small sprigs of leaves, everything is realized to incredible detail at an enormous scale. Targeting 60fps, Performance Mode further enhances smoothness of movement, animations and controls.
  • Haptic feedback: Get closer to each fight Aloy takes on with the DualSense™ wireless controller’s haptic feedback. Feel the sensation of blades of grass you brush past when making a stealth approach, melee swipes you make against machines and armored humans, and the directional impact from enemy attacks when you attempt to evade.
  • Adaptive triggers : Enjoy a new level of immersion when you interact with different objects using the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers. Feel the tension in the string of your bow, the pull of your new grappling tool and the resistance of the triggers on heavy tribal and mechanical weapons.
  • Tempest 3D AudioTech on compatible headphones: Listen to the landscapes of Horizon Forbidden West come to life around you with the PS5 console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech. Hear vegetation rustle in the wind, birds flying overhead and large mechanical machines swimming in the water below as you explore environments teeming with wildlife and machines.

Am I reading too much or just some random lows in the analysis?

Seems to just be a few miniscule drops beyond the launch model to me. Might be down to random aspects of the playthru.

Hope people remain calm on these minute drops…

But we both know where it can go from here…

Forza Horizon 5 is open world, has Multiplayer with more than 16 cars (over 90 in Eliminator) and ingame Raytracing. Thanks, Playground Games :+1:

So the dude was right but he got trashed by total freaking “grown up” babies? It’s just sad.

Stunning visuals? Well hey, could’ve fooled me!

In ForzaVista

FH5 has ingame Raytracing.

Yes for audio, right?

Yes.

For audio? Ok, now you’ve lost me

Functions not that different then for graphics. To calculate how light travels and reflects through a scene you can use Raytracing. Much the same you can use Raytracing to calculate how sound travels and reflects through a scene.

Using Raytracing for Audio was one of the examples Cerny gave in his Road to PS5 presentation. It was even the first!

I honestly did not know it exists for both visuals and audio, so this means the audio is going to be pretty ace?

should be, especially the sound of the other cars in the race

And the sound is already so damn good in these games. One of the clips the much improved engine sounds could be heard too.

If I’m not wrong in the Project Acoustics demo they have showed the Ray Traced audio.

DF Video about DeathLoop and optimized settings. I haven’t watched it yet, but pretty sure there will be coverage over what settings have the biggest impact. Hope this is useful to everyone and @KageMaru .

I think I’m missing something. He doesn’t really say anything about it running hotter and the only graph they show for heat actually shows the new model being cooler. What am I not seeing? Also I’m not sure the fan noise is exclusive to the new model. There are two fans in the launch model and I thought the new model just uses what’s considered the better of those two fans, but with a higher RPM and thus more sound. Am I off here?

The interesting thing about this image is that the load or how demanding the RT implementation would be is arranged from left to right. Basically audio is the least demanding form of ray tracing where full ray tracing, or I’m guessing this is path tracing, is the most demanding. So when a game has GI RT or RT shadows, those uses of RT would be cheaper than RT reflections.
