Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

Yeah really nothing for Gears 5 on Series S.

Series S is not looking good right now from Recent news. i expect they didn’t spend time on it for optimization, it missing some details. i won’t expect RT form this console even if RT was enabled then it will be either 1080P 30FPS or 720P-900P Resolution

So, basically the games that have a marketing deal with Microsoft runs better on the PS5, and the games that have a marketing deal with Sony runs better on the Series X? :stuck_out_tongue:

I have said it from day one that RT is not destined for the Series S in the long run - the horsepower is just not there, but more importantly the bandwidth is not. I feel developers will just leave it as a quick optimisation step. What I would say is that it would significantly close the performance gap between it and the PS5/Series X.

Runs considerably better on Series X, not even a little, no greater evidence than the usual suspects switching gears to spread FUD about Series S instead.

yeah i’m not expecting RT on this console i mean even AMD Graphics card first gen RT is Weak(more reasons for mid gen upgrades better RT and better VR with PSVR 2 and maybe MS VR  ), yeah the ram is biggest problem on series S i wish it was 12 GB. But let see how XVA will help ram and SSD in the future

where ? in this forum ?

Exactly. I am not expecting huge results out of none of the consoles really when it comes to RT, and we might need a midgen refresh for that. It’s my one concern about the Series S because it does seem 2GB too light, but let’s see how things go, because XVA does seem to be a radical departure as to how developers stream data.

The first win for XSX. Better performance in RT mode.

However, there is definitely a recurring problem with XSX handling 120fps, there is 100% a bottleneck, be it in the CPU, or RAM.

yeah they need to change the workflow for data streaming, maybe MS should tell the devs how to use it or send devs to studios to help them with that   I believe SFS is only tested by internal devs at xbox and probably Turn 10

I don’t think it is RAM, it probably CPU either CPU is not being used fully or CPU is helping decompression data and PS5 With it’s IO don’t have that problem

I don’t think we can read much into Series S yet. Those dev kits were last second. Going to be less optimized than Series X. Full RDNA2 feature set utilization will be magnified on it. Still not getting RDNA2 efficiencies. What will be interesting is watching for the performance of Series S from Microsoft 1st party and then 3rd party down the road. I believe it’s plenty capable when it’s efficiencies are leveraged.

Very good news! More and more points to the devkits and tools being not ready. The more skilled devs seem to be able to work around that in most cases. With time, the XSX will dominate as it should.

We shouldn’t care too much about the Series S, that is not a console for anyone who cares about performance, noone is pulling the Switch into these conversations for example.

I’m still convinced it’s related to SFS. Once devs get that to work properly, the entire system will run much smoother…is what I believe. I base it off a dev comment and piecing together the impact SFS has on freeing up potential bottlenecks in the system.

Series S should be fine for the next 5 years, also it will depends on how good is ML if it’s good then i expect series S to last 7 years.

what i want to know what is MS Strategy ? releasing consoles every 4 years (series x2 and series s2) or regular gen lifecycle with mid gen upgrade in 2023-2024 (call it series W) and new gen in 2027-2028

I wouldn’t put it past them to have another mid gen refresh however it will be purely an enthusiast device and even less necessary than the One X. Something that may run a more complete version of ray tracing for example. Ray tracing itself is a very expensive feature and hitting 4K, 60fps with a robust implementation of ray tracing on next gen games is not likely to happen on any of these consoles even with ML upscaling. I believe these consoles will hold up well in terms of frame rates and game design. People aren’t buying Series S for high level IQ so it’ll be fine even 7 years from now too. It’ll hold up better than the OG Xbox One did IMO…outside of it’s paltry storage.

this console for $200 will sell like hotcakes in three years also i won’t be surprised if they sell series s at $250 next year holiday

I completely forgot the CPU could well be doing a lot of decompression which would definitely affect performance.

I think it depends if sony did it then MS will follow on mid gen upgrade

Massive perspective needed on the series s. In the UK it costs ÂŁ249. The One S costs ÂŁ249 also though had ÂŁ20 off currently.

For £249 the Series S is an absolute wonder. A miracle. It’s cheaper than a switch for gods sake and is running COD at 1200p-1440p.

That’s absolutely superb.
