I’d suggest you watch the actual direct feed footage in the DF vid on a 4k TV. It looks perfectly fine on XSS because the 576p isn’t accounting for reconstruction, which dramatically improves IQ on screen.
My point is you are not appearing to actually understand what the 576p res even refers to and the fact that it is not what you imagine it is. Go watch the footage on a 4k screen (or even better for an XSS target demographic, a 1080p screen). The image quality is genuinely fine. The pop in is an issue for sure though.
Technically it does drop under 1080P on PS5, but agree all with your points.
In the same dense forest area the PS5 will drop to about 864p and the seriesX is 1080p
So considering the SeriesS is less then half the power of PS5 its pretty good.
However I do think there should be more modes, maybe a 30fps mode or a non Raytracing mode
The one point you are forgetting is that on that same area ps5 is sub 1080p and SX itself is 1080p.
Proportionally SS is around the expected here.
I’m still genuinely impressed by what the Series S is capable of here with most of RT features and 60 FPS. This was something people thought was impossible on it and yet they managed it pretty fine. In comparison, you will never find a PC with that price capable of that.
Worse than One S? That same section runs at 23 FPS on One S, dude. Without ray-tracing and at a much lower resolution too.
Not sure you get my point because offering the option to switch between the enhanced and a Gen9 Aware last gen version on the fly is exactly what I was talking about. I’m not talking about a non-RT enhanced version, I get that doesn’t exist and won’t exist. I’m talking about taking the last gen game, doing a (relatively) simple update to make it Gen9 Aware to boost the frame rate up to 60fps and offer that as an option alongside the enhanced edition.
I specifically said I don’t think the XSS will limit next gen design. I’m not sure you’re understanding my post at all my friend. From a pure rendering perspective, I can just see a lot of low rez games appearing on the XSS is all I’m saying. It may still feature the snazzy next gen effects, features, and design, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the IQ suffers big time.
I meant in design. 4A’s next game will surely be more ambitious in design just due to the fact that they don’t have to support last gen systems. This will make these games even more demanding and it’ll be interesting to see how the XSS copes in these situations.
Granted, there is still a lot of optimization and efficiencies to take advantage of on these new gen consoles, especially the XSS and XSX but my main point was about the IQ.
what? im genuinely confused by your statement, its pushing ray tracing and 60fps that was the main target that 4A games decided was the best. So tell me you know better than 4A games
So people will come and complain about Series S being less then 720p but won’t even question PS5 dropping below 1080p
They also forget it’s dynamic resolution and neither of the consoles remain at those lower resolution limits all the time. Only in stressful scenes.
Asking for a non RT version is fine… But complaining about RT version is pure arrogance
Also, neither of the consoles will hold good in 5 years. Targets are not achievable for this price and power. But games will be great and everyone will enjoy them.
the frame drops i’m seeing on these df vids are like 50 57 fps on series X, while the ps5 version dips to below 1080p in some instances.
I can’t believe I’m playing Metro Exodus at 60 FPS. And the TAA at 60 FPS is so effective. IQ is really great. Really, don’t look at the raw numbers, it doesn’t tell you much in this case.
The agressive pop-in on Series S is a bit disappointing, but I think 4A did what they could with that little beast. So still impressive for a 299$ console !
This is a good point, people need to know that whoever cares about performance and resolution would have opted for the xbox series x coz their priorities are with the best looking. You have to remember series s is entry level and is mainly a gamepass machine and it does this job pretty damn well
The PS5 has to go below 1080p. The SX to 1080p. So what do you expect the Series S to do?
Stop defining a games graphics by a resolution number out of context.
Yeah, it’s a budget next-gen console and I think it does the job from what I see. Personnaly, I want to play the games at their best, but for a kid/a teenager/family/casuals, that’s pretty great performance for that price point. Tbh, it’s basically a Fortnite/Minecraft, GP machine.
These kind of issues will not be a problem once developers start using the DirectStorage APIs.
I’m not sure if upcoming games like FH5, Halo Infinite will be using the new XVA APIs but fully expect the next-gen exclusives to use these which are scheduled for 2022/23.
