Ouch that isn’t helping the terrible price for standard game pass while pc game pass is so much cheaper. They better have a nice collection coming from the Tokyo game show for console. But knowing them they will continue to treat the console like an afterthought.
Was hoping when they finally started adding ABK games that this would become a monthly thing. Not that I expected a CoD every month perse, on the other hand why not, there are SO many, but the several other titles. Only one console game too, that’s not too great.
But TGS…
Would they really add more second half September games out of the blue though?
Edit.
Yup.
-
2021 - Scarlet Nexus, AI Somnium Files

2023 - Like a Dragaon Man Who Erased His Name. Like a Dragon Ishin. Ace Attorney Trilogy.
So…let’s wait.
You’d hope so, and I do think they will announce some immediate / very soon Game Pass releases at TGS.
Otherwise, I know they have the Shattered Space expansion coming out later this month, but even with quite a few big first party games hitting over the next 6 months or so this isn’t really acceptable unless they announce some more.
Some big games are leaving - and many more leave nowadays than join - and PC is getting most of them, and Standard hasn’t got a single addition which isn’t making it look good value at all.
I still think they should stick with have Core, Ultimate and PC as the Standard probably isn’t worth the confusion it causes.
While I’m stacked for the next year or so and I know I’ll get my value back from the first party games alone, after a price rise you’d really think they’d be pulling out all the stops for a little while - so fingers crossed for some big TGS drops.
If nothing is announced at TGS (unlikely), my only guess would be they had a big first party game they thought would hit in late September - and maybe it had an internal delay and they couldn’t rush any other GP additions up to cover it?
Let’s wait and see for TGS first anyway… (Pretty please for a shadow FF16 Game Pass drop!)
For this year they’ve added a ridiculous amount overall, it’s just severely slowed down the last month or so.
Problem with that is they increased the price when it slowed down.
I don’t mind a slow month every now and then to catch up on backlog, but I haven’t really been excited for a game pass drop in a while. Little Kitty, Big City maybe? Back in spring sometime…
Yep I have tweaked it a little as I went through Staffy’s list of what they’ve dropped at TGS the last few years.
I’ve got more than enough to play (although I’ve mostly been playing games I bought recently as some like Nobody Wants to Die have grabbed by eye more than the GP additions).
Got the Starfield premium upgrade too at launch so got Shattered Space soon.
It’s more just I honestly thought with the GP changes they’d have ramped up the additions for a short while - so have been a bit surprised by the smaller batches.
However if FF16 (for example, fingers doubly crossed!) is shadow dropped at TGS I’d say they’ve definitely got the messaging / marketing right for the price increases / changes.
I’m just hoping this isn’t a sign that as their AAA first party pipeline finally hits its stride (particularly with the addition of CoD) that they’re not going to cut back on the smaller additions.
For someone who can’t play Souls-like games and doesn’t have the coordination / reaction times for multiplayer, I did love the fact that in almost every batch of 6 to 8 games I could find at least one I fancied trying and often would love.
Screw the whole “Indie Pass” label from weirdos - I love the smaller games on GP, they’ve made it more than worth it to me, and will continue to be a great chillout between big first party games for me
Rolling Hills was a great addition recently for me, similar chilled vibes to Little Kitty I thought (apart from the slight increase in heart rate during restaurant service!)
Fingers crossed there’s a few drops at TGS that’ll help - then I guess when CoD arrives the price increase will be forgotten about…
To be fair though Ara: History Untold is a Xbox First Party (+Oxide) launch. I’m hoping it gets a good reception from the grand strategy crowd.
I’ve had it pre-loaded (the tiny install file that gets updated with the full version) on my Xbox for 18 months now lol.
Really looking forward to it, but not sure my PC is up to it at the moment so been waiting for the Xbox version.
Given I’m not getting a Pro I might use some savings to upgrade my PC given PC Game Pass seems to be getting a lot of love recently (I also fancy FrostPunk 2)
@Widey85 I forgot about Rolling Hills! I was addicted to it for about a week!
Most of all I just don’t really understand the super slow ABK rollout.
I do get that they clearly want enough time in between CoD games and at the rate it’s going it will be a year from now and all CoD still won’t be on it. But last month they could’ve added some other ABK too.
There’s been so much stuff released on Game Pass that I’m pretty far behind. Still haven’t touched Age of Mythology, Atlas Fallen, Creatures of Ava and a bunch of other stuff.
Been too much stuff to play lol. I don’t know how folks worry about the month to month.
For me it’s an easy equation: Cost of Game Pass vs. Money saved on games I would’ve bought on or near release. (Otherwise I can just wait and pick up things cheap in sales)
So far this year that is Hellblade 2 ($50)…
When they moved Avowed out of this year it probably made this year the first where it’s not a good deal for me.
I am installing Age of Mythology this week to play some coop with a friend.
Frostpunk 2 and ARA are looking good, wanted to try them too, but with AoM and Fifa coming in a few days i can feel a bottleneck in my free time to play all that lol.
Guess i’ll wait for reviews and try the best one.
Must admit MS is giving the slow, management games enjoyers a lot of love with all the Age Of, games like ARA, a lot of stuff from studios like Paradox, Football Manager, F1 Manager, etc…
Hope Football Manager deal continues this year too, it should get announced in a few days
Yea, I’m gonna expecting another “xbox is dying” because of this
In the month that Shattered Space launches I dont find it too surprising, and realistically only have time for that anyway.
It would feel odd to me to have a high quantity of games hitting the service this month when a big paid content drop is coming for one of Xbox’s largest AAA games. About time they let things shine rather than saturating the service.
It’s literally coming in the last day of the month and is a paid DLC, doesn’t seem very relevant.
If something big hit gamepass half way through September it could have a knock on. People only have finite time.
