I’m not sure which came out that only sold 5,000, but the Street Fighter Collection was a lazy port to the Xbox to the point where it affects quality and they can’t expect poor quality products to sell.
It was Ace Attorney, at least based on one source. See, I don’t buy it since the next one is getting Xbox release and it’s even more niche than mainline series. Marvel is USA, so what gives. That’s where the wtf comes in.
The source is from the Capcom leak.

This argument doesn’t hold up when they had no issue putting Ace Attorney a far more niche game on the console and also have zero issue putting games on Gamepass. It’s so weird seeing gamers side with publishers when they do this anti consumer bullshit. So weird.
Also MVC2 is not a “small” game by any stretch especially when it comes to the FGC.

Capcom: Are they booing?
Port Team: No, sir. They’re saying Boo-com! It’s early Halloween.
It is a collection of fighting games from the 90s. I love them to death, I play them damn near weekly on my 360 and my PC but these classic collections are considered smaller projects.
I don’t think not releasing a game on your preferred platform is anti consumer either.
If you notice, no one is crying over Fairy Tail 2 or Romancing Saga 2, yet this one is. I think not only the property is popular in USA and not only it’s affiliated with Marvel, but Ace Attorney next collection that’s making niche look nicher (don’t ask me) made the reaction much louder than anything before. Not to mention, the last collection happened. It’s Octopath 2 but arguably worse.
The Battle Network collection also did not come to Xbox and that released a year after the Fighting Collection. It really comes down to it being way, way easier to port the AA games to Xbox versus MvC.
I am aware of that. Again, the situation that I listed here is something that only they know the answer rather than us speculating. No one except them knows why it ended up like this.
If Capcom is having issues porting what amounts to rom dumps with fancy UI to consoles they need to seriously hire some new people.
Reducing their work to being rom dumps is extremely reductive of the development process.
Do you know how long it took for something like fightcade to even get NAOMI-based games like MvC2 or CvS2 to work on PC? Like this shit is extremely recent. Up until now Capcom and other developers have only ported the imperfect console versions of popular games because the development process is nightmarish. It’s nothing short of a miracle that MvC2’s native version is even usable on modern platforms.
I get that you’re frustrated but writing off the work that these dudes do because of some bullshit frustration you’re feigning as ‘anti-consumerism’ is nonsensical.
Yeah, Poor Capcom.
It has that “think of the billionaire” energy though ironic in a way.
Why would they hire people on a platform where no one is buying their product, man.
I get you’re frustrated. I get that it sucks that your preferred platform is being left out. I would hope that you have the inner resolve to think out why would THIS particular game would stop Capcom from putting it on Xbox versus all the other shit they put on it – hell, Kunitsu-Gami is coming out on it next week!
I play classic games near exclusively these days and anyone who actually plays the Versus series, let alone any Capcom game from the 95 - 2002 will tell you that it is extremely difficult to port that back catalogue to modern platforms. No Rival Schools, No Power Stone, no CvS, none of the EX games – if it isn’t licensing that burdens the process, it’s manpower. Same with the myriad of japanese arcade games made 30+ years ago.
The fact that Cacpom actually MANAGED to do a clean NAOMI port is nothing short of a miracle. it’s difficult!
I do think there is an argument here where opting out of a form of game preservation is anti-consumer.
Xbox looks to be creating something akin to Steam and Windows in where going forward every game created for the current Xbox platforms will be playable on future Xbox hardware no matter what technological leaps happen.
There’s two parts to this, one being the store itself and the other being the hardware and it’s ability to play the older titles. They’re trying to mimic Steam and where a product on the store will be forever available and playable on it.
Let’s say that hardware completely changes due to tech advances and that the PlayStation 6 is a completely different architecture. This game would not be playable on it unless Sony invests a lot into BC. We have yet to see PS3 digital store represented on the current PlayStation store, for example. And to some extent, that’s fine, I’m not expecting them to. You sort of have to cut your losses at a point. If you scroll up it I’m actually collecting as many classic arcade fighters on the 360 as I can before the store closes down soon. It’s incredibly disappointing that few of these titles on a playable on my new Xbox consoles. But going forward, I don’t want the games locked to a generation of hardware.
But going forward, from the PS4 onwards, I would want the digital stores and libraries to be carried forward. Where I can buy a PS6 and reminisce about a PS4 title and then buy it.
The lack of a PS5 version has me hoping that this is Sony’s plan. But we don’t know for sure. And despite how vague Xbox is about their future, we pretty much do know that they want to make their store and libraries future compatible.
Plus I do consider it the top consumer friendly platform when there are features like cross-save, Cloud Play, full discord support, a possible handheld that is fully compatible with the store & library, and hardware with the best input latency. They’re not perfect, the support for custom fight sticks has taken a step backwards in recent months, for example, but overall I would say that it would be the best platform for consumers. Unfortunately, its sales makes it harder to convince Capcom to invest in it.
So I do think there is a good argument to be made to that they are being anti-consumer friendly. The real reason Capcom is doing this is to make as much profit as possible.
It’s like Midway not porting Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 to the 3DO. It would have been the best port and finally given consumers and arcade perfect Mortal Kombat experience at home. But the sales of the console weren’t there and it wasn’t worth it for Midway to do it. They did what was in their best interest and not in the best interest of consumers and the fighting game community.
I really hope Xbox steps in and helps with getting this collection on Xbox. If it really is an engine issue that sucks because Capcom has an insane backlog of games that are going to skip Xbox because this won’t be the last of the collections to come.
Sorry that it has been awhile, but I finally got around to updating the OT with Tekken 8 and City of the Wolves!
Now, on to business - who else is hyped for Terry in SF6?
