Do you mean 50’s?
The 80’s looked more like this :
Absolutely loved it. I started off a bit bored with Maximus storyline (in comparison to Lucy, Ghoul). Surprised how much I really came to loving that storyline as well.
One more episode to go. Never played a fallout before (but I own 3, New Vegas and have 4/76 on Game Pass) but its really great television.
An understated element, i really like how the Fallout logo is different every episode.
For me It looks like a series made in the 80s about a dystopian retrofuturistic 50s
I think they did a really good job adapting the armor to live action, it could’ve looked really goofy but they pulled it off.
The sound does so much to bring them to life. Their scenes were an incredible showcase of the sound design for the show.
This show was incredible, far better than I expected! I loved how Season 1 wrapped up for the 3 different character arcs, and I can’t wait to see Season 2 now.
Never played any of the games, but really enjoyed the show.
Most of the commenters on other sites I see moaning about the show, it seems to be that they’ve done the NCR dirty, there’s less civilisation left than in the games etc. etc.
They’re forgetting that “yeah we’ve moved on, everything you loved in the last game is dead or destroyed” is a classic Bethesda game move, so in that way it’s more faithful to the games than ever.
Skyrim I remember being irritated that I’d spent so long in Oblivion saving Imperial City only for it in the 200 years between the games to fall to the Aldmeri Dominion, while Fallout uses a new vault every game and a new timeframe to tell a new story.
I’ve learnt to not get too attached to anything in a BGS game as they don’t really do sequels - they tell new stories and don’t care too much how they wrap the previous ones up in order to achieve that, and that’s fair enough.
So to expect the TV series to follow on from all the games, leave all factions unharmed and as they were at the end of the games, is unrealistic when it’s never happened between games let alone other media
I’m watching a episode weekly, really taking my time. Just watched the second episode.
They truly nailed what Fallout is, the humor is great and perfectly balanced with the more serious stuff. I love how Lucy is this naive, trusting and still civilised person while in a world that is the exact opposite and she plays the role perfectly! The action scenes in the settlement were awesome too. And there were some people before the show was out that were worried it would be too clean, not bloody enough. Well…goddamn!
The scene with the Yua Goai (sp) where the dude in BoS power armor is running away and screaming shit, shit, shit was truly funny as hell. Cooper the ghoul is awesome too. It’s a bummer the guy with glasses has such a short role, he’s cool!
Just two episodes in, but I am willing to say this is the best TV adaption of a game yet.
I want to touch on this, because I wholeheartedly agree. It’s one thing to make a show out of a game modeled after a movie, effectively “porting” the game to the big screen and it’s an entirely different level of skill to take a beloved series, that’s also wholly unique, and make an entirely new story in the universe that adds entirely new canon (all without destroying or sullying what was there before) and still manages to capture the tone and atmosphere of the games perfectly.
Also, if this doesn’t convince people Walton Goggins is a powerhouse, I don’t know what will. For those unfamiliar, I’m happy to recommend some movies/shows to check him out on other than this, but my first recommendation would be American Ultra. Went in thinking I’d hate the movie, ended up massively surprised and loving it - Goggins’ character is a large part of why.
Edit: Bonus Goggins, I mean come on, this dude just eats up every role he plays:
I could not have said it better myself! I don’t think they could have found a better person than Nolan for this, wow. I am so damn glad now that Todd Howard agreed to this.
Dont you love it when something utterly exceeds your expectations? Because holy cow, this show sure did that. When it was announced my first thought was…why? Why even bother. But then I heard Jonathan Nolan, then trailers were released, but even with the trailers I remained very skeptical. But wow, it’s just so damned good that I want to savor it and not rush through it too fast. And the audio, oh man with a good audio setup it’s bliss!
As for Goggins, oh yes he’s fantastic in this. His scenes in episode 2 had me going all “let’s gooooooo”, haha. Plays the role so, so damn well. I haven’t seen American Ultra, that’s one to add to the list. I know him best from The Shield. Oh and I bet you already know this but the show The Peripheral by Nolan is damn good too.
Goggins is so good in The Hateful Eight
My introduction to him was on the gritty FX series, The Shield. I haven’t watched in recently, so I don’t know how or if it survives the test of time. It’s older, from 2002-2008 but it was one of my must watch series back then.
That’s Michael Rapaport. Infamous NYC actor who curses a lot. If you’re into the NBA you probably know the term Tingus Pingus. The whole scene was on brand lmao.
Edit: quote someone removes the whole spoiler part. Interesting
Same! The Shield was a hell of a show, especially given the time it was released (well before the quality and maturity of what we see often these days). FX was made in my mind because of The Shield - don’t even get me started on the rat being left to die alone in his car (long story but iykyk)… still haunts me.
OH MY GOSH IS HE THE GUY FROK THE TINGUS PINGUS CLIP THATS INSANE
I was surprised to see him in the series. Then he starts to curse like he just reincarnated into the Fallout universe lmao.
