Oh, for sure, it’s still well within its value price point threshold. It would be a situation where not just Game Pass is too expensive but rather gaming as a whole. If that makes sense (new release games in Australia can be 110 dollars).
Gaming has never really followed inflation to be honest, games haven’t gone up in price by that much over time when you think about it but salaries and everything else around has gone up considerably, so I’m not even surprised the whole system is coming down right now and that the Sony/Microsoft leadership is having a hard time figuring out how to make it work while not having all of your players turn against you.
While I agree about actual game prices, the inflation has been in everything else - consoles cost more (except the Series S, and ignoring the original PS3 price), online multiplayer costs, MTX including cosmetics and loot boxes, DLC, premium editions with early access etc etc.
There’s now some games if they’re not on a sub and you want all the DLC / a complete game you can be looking at hundreds of pounds (looking at you, Paradox) but often over a hundred in the first 6 months to a year even for mainstream stuff.
Back in the days of games on tapes, or late nineties / early 2000s gaming was affordable to a teenager - and even console gaming often had games go down to the 20 quid Platinum label after a year.
It feels nowadays like gaming is a much more expensive hobby even though I’m no longer a teenager using pocket money / part time job - and I agree, no doubt it’s changing the industry too as it likely helped drive Game Pass and has very much driven FTP games like Fortnite, especially if they can be played on a tablet, phone or Switch.
Kids in my family might rarely get new games (I do insist on being the non-sensible one who buys them gaming stuff) but their parents do often allow them say a new Fortnite skin a month.
For that same tenner, back then it’d have been a fiver and I would’ve bought something like Pizza Tycoon for my old PC and played it for months lol
This was only back in February
Exactly, we have known for a while that Call of Duty, barring some lingering Sony marketing contract nonsense, was going to be on Game Pass. The issue with the current round of “oh no, COD is not going to Game Pass” all comes down to the lack of reading comprehension.
Microsoft had conversations… past tense. Just like Microsoft had conversations of making COD exclusive, or had conversations about buying Sega, WB, Square, etc.
Given the fact that Xbox have doubled, if not tripled down on the whole slate coming to Game Pass, in the last few months, should be all the assurance any needs that they had the conversation but ultimately decided to go ahead with it.
I think there are many ways to recoup COD money while having it on Game Pass. First, they can do the 3-day Game Pass early access for 35bucks like they did for Starfield. They can also offer all that buy it at 70 bucks free DLC along with free 1 month Game Pass. It should be noted that they have also told regulators they would include COD in Game Pass not doing so will result in serious repercussions.
Early access deluxe upgrade, and exempting MTX from gamepass discount.
