Anytime someone said that COD wouldn’t be on gamepass was a clear tell that they were full of shit
Well that nuked a lot of FUD. Kinda surprised honestly, thought there would be a change here.
I have already seen people claim she did not say what she clearly said in this video
Yep didn’t read this thread before the other one, was glad to hear this recommitment
Game Pass was the one thing I was slightly concerned about during all the hubbub. Good to hear that commitment.
As a live service / mostly multiplayer game, it only makes sense to add COD to Game Pass, right? Keeps people subscribed long term.
That’s the part I don’t get. People say it will kill COD sales, which of course if you are MS, it means you might lose COD sales on top of Game Pass subscription if you wanted people to double dip for that game. But when it comes to COD, the multiplayer is the incentive, not the single player campaign. So like you said, it should normally keep people in the service so I don’t see it as a negative. It might make them lose a few million sales a year on Xbox though but it could also make them gain a lot of Gamepass PC subscriptions in return, so while it is somewhat of a gamble I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be.
Yep and all that lovely MTX - I’d be interested to know what portion of CoD revenue is that compared to sales.
Plus Warzone is free and people still buy CoD, so either they’d continue to do so or yes sub to GP
We know COD is a big seller on Xbox so there is potential to cannibalise there for sure. But maybe not all COD players are on Ultimate, so either put COD in the ultimate tier only, make some stuff locked behind Ultimate (like single player in Gamepass and Multiplayer in Ultimate tier only) or put a lot of monthly GPU perks for COD, like early access to the game, to maps, extra tier skips, more double exp weekends, etc. You could even get the PC players and mobile players to jump in to get those incentives.
There are tons of things that could be done to mitigate the lost Xbox sales to be honest. MS has the data though and we don’t, up to them to analyze and make the right moves. But even without hard data I think it’s easy to be creative here and brainstorm a lot of potentially good ideas.
Yes, but COD has the chance of bringing in many Game Pass subs on PC.
If it also launches on Steam D1, does COD really has the power to overcome Steam reverence?
It’s been interesting to read the reactions to this latest re-assurance and still see people doubt COD is coming to Game Pass.

Didn’t we went through the same thing during 3rd party event? People started sharing rumors that there were “talking about it” and it was dispelled during the business update. It’s probably going to come back during every bad news until we actually get to first COD D1 launch in GP.
And even then there will be people saying that it doesn’t count because you could buy deluxe edition with early access so it’s not actually D1 or sth.
Yep, they did the same thing when Forza Horizon 5 dropped. “Xbox breaks day one promise with early access bundle,” even though the series had early access included with the Ultimate edition for multiple games at that point.
I think that selling early access “Deluxe Upgrade” is a great way to compensate for GP launch. Throw in cosmetics, sometimes DLC, it’s way easier to sell something like that when a person doesn’t feel like they have to first spend whole $70.
I think it’s a gamble they have to take. The 100k concurrent or so daily players of COD on steam (maybe that includes Warzone, not sure), so probably a lot more in total, do they mostly play COD or a lot of games; how much are they invested in Steam, and also, how many of them have switched to Steam as there could be quite a lot of them on the Blizzard launcher who knows, maybe the majority of COD players are there I have no idea. So if you can get them to pay 10$ per month for Gamepass PC instead of what, like 80$ or so for the game, the difference isn’t that big and you get a lot more games in the end as well once you look at the complete package.
I think it’s a gamble worth pursuing in the end. And same as with console players, you can sell a 40-50$ premium edition upgrade with early access to PC players as well.
Awesome!!! Just give me a few release dates at the showcase and I will be very happy!!
I don’t believe anything they say anymore.
So I won’t jump on the “good news” either like some lemming Who knows what things look like in a month.
It’s of course better that she says this than the opposite though.
Remember Mort, it’s all true… until it’s not.
Haha yes.
