It doesn’t have to simply be about money. It could have been a problem with MS’s plans for Discord management and who would be in charge of what. It could have been any number of things really.

I think this one was specifically about valuation. I doubt they would have gone to MS if they had fears for org structure or mgmt.

I would wager that the two companies are close, for them to make such an approach to MS.

There is a part that is puzzling: They will need a cash influx so quickly after a series H - which is just weird, if you think about it. And their only means of rev has been Nitro subs.

In the end it probably was about valuation, but we’ll probably never know unless somebody leaks something. It’ll be fascinating to see what happens when and if they do go through with an IPO.

I always thought discord would be a poor investment for microsoft or sony,

I get discord is the hot new thing at the moment, maybe im just old but its not exactly hard to communicate with other people on xbox + playstation.

Also communication apps are not exactly the most stable of things, one minite one is really popular and the next there is something new on the block.

Also chat room based system is ideal for desktop with a full keyboard. On a console, it’s practically useless. Basically Discord is something a PC gamer would definitely use, but for console gamers it’s before or after a session on their PC.
