BREAKING: Microsoft has officially acquired Activision-Blizzard-King

Imagine complaining about corporation consolidation that could improve the industry via more competition but then also lick the foot of a big corporation whenever they do bad stuff.

Right, I appreciate you folks pointing out the specifics. I meant more along the lines of “It would be great if they did more than even that” and frankly, we’ve seen that MS can be very hands-off even to a detriment.

Apparently Kotick will be given the heave-ho once the year is out which is a great start. Still just because the fish rots from the head doesn’t mean cutting off the head will give you a clean fish, you know? There’s still work to do and they need to be on top of it like Daniel said.

I just don’t want this extremely important point to fall to the wayside or to get swept aside in the flurry of console wars and excitement about game pass (I explicitly don’t mean here)

Frankly this and Xbox being on steady footing are the only things I really stand to gain from this ordeal since I don’t care about ABK’s output, not that I begrudge anybody who is rightfully excited for what this means for their wallet

Edit: just saw I said “frankly” twice, I guess I’m trying to be super candid here

That’s certainly possible. I mean, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if we have to wait until January. It’s not like I don’t have many games to play, haha.

I wonder how soon they are able to add MW3 to it. I was expecting not until November next year, but who knows. Diablo 4 probably early next year too then.

Phil did say it wasn’t straightforward and work needed to be done to do it. Who knows exactly what that involves…and additionally they may be concerned that for example dumping all old call of duty games into gamepass this holiday detracts from sales of MW3….

My guess is they want to prepare the backend to ensure simultaneous drops for Xbox and PC. Whether that means tying the Battle.Net launcher to Game Pass or bringing the games to the Microsoft Store is yet to be seen.

If Microsoft pushed this out now, we would only have Xbox-only Game Pass drops.

Unless we get the type of announcement Sony made when Bungie was bought, I fully expect anything not COD related to go exclusive

Where GamePass exists.

That I would definitely understand, but what about the many other titles that aren’t CoD? I’d love to see Crash 4 for example soonish, or THPS remakes.

Oh yeah I agree they could always do better, but what they’re currently doing is a lot more than a lot another other companies, including the one they just bought

So long as they act fast to bad scenarios, fix them and try to make them not a thing in future, that’s all we can hope for but the unionisation could be a big step there.

That video was great! Almost surreal that this is finally done.

Now, I’m going out there to OD on salt…

I think Diablo IV gets added early 2024. Probably Spring. MW3 all depends on what the marketing deal/contract entails in regards to Sony. We know Sony blocks day one Game Pass deals for games that they have a marketing deal for but how long it lasts and whatnot remains to be seen.

With their marketing deal expiring in 2024, I am fully expecting COD 2024 to be under Microsoft’s marketing and be on Game Pass day one.

If I was Microsoft, I would eliminate the Windows Store when it comes to gaming and merge it all with Battle.net. It would solve the issue of them having to fix the Windows Store to where people actually want to use it and merging it all with Battle.net would be massive. Imagine all the Game Pass incentives and whatnot they could do or tie in the Warcraft subscription and stuff. Oh man. At least, this is what I would do because I know when it comes to PC, Windows Store isn’t close to being the favorite so why not make it all easier.

windows store isn’t going anywhere.

I would keep it for movies and TV shows but gaming wise, nah, I would move it all Battle.net because it’s simply better and far more likely that people use it over the Windows Store. Besides, they’re going to most likely have deals with Warcraft and whatnot so to streamline it by combining it would make it so much easier in my opinion.

One thing is for sure, Microsoft isn’t going to keep all these storefronts up and running which they shouldn’t. Why have a few when you can have one dominant one?

it’s not going anywhere, this really isnt up for debate.

PlayStation just started offering 4K streaming options. So Xbox really needs to get out of beta and provide a better service. The streaming quality is pretty bad in my experience. (Stadia and PS have been flawless for me.) Considering Xbox is the major force pushing this tech, it’s time to step it up.
