Folks, it is incredible.

I cannot explain to you how incredible the game is without massively spoiling things - I was so concerned about doing so, I shared the review video with the developers to make sure it didn’t.

You have so much to look forward to. Go download it the second it’s available, and say goodbye to your life.

Wow, can’t wait to try it!

Sounds interesting enough to try even if I lose interest with rogue-likes fairly quickly(Hades and Gungeon being the 2 I put a little more than 3 hours into). I do expect that when I finally get around to playing it if I don’ forget, I will stop in about an hour though.

The rogue-lite bit turns me off slightly but I do love mystery / puzzle games so I’ll definitely give it a go.

About to finish Avowed finally so may get through this before AC Shadows and South of Midnight - have been playing more on my PC but if there’s no mid-run saving then yes Quick Resume may lead me to play this on my XSX as I doubt I’m going to need much accessibility stuff thankfully

I want to like this game more than I do.

I know what you mean. I’ve played it a bunch this weekend and it’s neat, but it’s not the sort of game that I want to devote dozens of hours to. I’m just not that into puzzles.

Im the opposite, I love puzzles. I like just about everything that the game is trying to do. I just dont really like the rougelike part of it. Having to start over and over and over and be at the mercy of the game giving the choice of a fucking utility closet or two rooms that require more gems than you have, gets old really fast.

Ive ended runs with 50+ steps left (unlocked permanent increase) just because the game gave me no options to continue.

I am thinking that this is a 7/10 at best, the RNG mechanism is utterly broken and the puzzles getting harder with each attempt is just a baffling choice. And even worse, probably, is the actual lack of puzzles.

All I’ve came across is the Darts and Parlor puzzle, and they’re both awful after three tries never mind ten!

Yeah, not seeing this as you’ve described it @Sikamikanico, and that’s not a complaint! We just normally align exactly on these types of games - you’ve never been more right than your review of Cocoon and Genesis Noir!

I just had to end a day with 82 steps remaining because the RNG is dog shit.

I’m just getting frustrated because everything about this is fantastic outside of the rougelike parts.

I’m intrigued to hear that folks are finding the RNG of a run frustrating. If I may give some polite tips to help those out with some drafting strategies (fun tip, this is all from a book you can find in the game to help you strategise, so its not a huge spoiler)

Initially your goal is to reach the antechamber, not sure how many of you have done this yet, so I’ll be carefull here. Drafting rooms to get there isn’t always about a direct route. Here’s some helpful screen grabs that may assist you in your goals. With Dead Ends, deplot them strategically - once you’ve dropped one, it won’t appear again. Utilise the space you have to get your dead ends out of the way.

Equally, always draft rooms you’ve never seen before. You’ll be surprised at what you discover.

Lastly, when it comes to the puzzles getting harder. I’ll be careful here - you’re probably referring to the Billiard and Parlor Rooms - my friends, those are not the puzzle you should be focusing on. All I will say is that the entire HOUSE is a puzzle, in ways you don’t yet realise, and everything, in every room is in some small way…connected. Be observant, and think about the space you’re playing in.

I’ve been listening to the french podcast Origami and they loved it ! They said it’s so well crafted that it can get you obsessed with the puzzles and mystery.

I played my first day and find the solution of the dartboard in a few tries and was pretty proud of myself.

same.

i expected something along the lines of Outer Wilds but its way too random for me. There is also not a lot of puzzle or detective work here.

Meh for now but i will see how i feel after another couple runs

Yeah that’s it. The Dart puzzle has got so hard I am no longer doing it.

I simply don’t understand the wider meta puzzle and it feels like the game doesn’t give a shit that I’m not getting it. I’ve unlocked a lot of rooms and new bits but otherwise I’m just kinda getting burned out not being able to make any rooms not the same six of Parlor, Hallway, Den, Boudoir, Nook, etc

To me it’s not really a matter of understanding, it’s a matter of the core loop not being fun. Each run provides knowledge, but obtaining that knowledge does not ensure that you are going to be able to use it in any sort of timely manner. . You might have to do five more runs before the game decides to present you with the opportunity to apply it. That, at its core, is not fun to me.

For example, I learned the location of a switch that opens one of the antechamber doors. During that run I pulled the switch, opened the door, and made it all the way up to the tile immediately preceding it. On this tile I drew the draft room which allows redrawing rooms. So I’ve got six shots at drawing a room with a door allowing me access to the open antechamber door.

First draw - one room with no exits, two rooms that exceed the amount of gems I have.

Okay

Redraw rooms - one room with no exits, on room with no exits on the required side. One that costs more gems than I have.

Run over, with the antechamber door open.

Next five runs, never see the room that I know has the lever again.

Don’t get me wrong, I can completely understand why that loop is enjoyable for many. And if I enjoyed that loop I would be singing its praises along with everyone else. The way the game is put together is really impressive.

Hope you guys do a spoilercast or some equivalent on this - it’s a very fun game to talk about. In the same way that RNG isn’t a big deal, it’s definitely designed as a game to promote conversation and sharing hints.

I’m going to stream some during the subathon, it may help folks that are struggling.

I’m curious if folks have thought about the art in all the rooms a bit more yet or if anyone has started to find and open the safes/red letters/permanent run additions…
