Avowed is set to release Fall 2024 - new gameplay shown

Avowed looks like a great start. One better than TOW.

Avowed GOTY I cannot wait, playing POE for the first time (Tried it on Xbox and didn’t like it, finally tryin it on the PC I made in 22) and am blown away by the world!

There are great GDC talks on AI. ā€˜Sophisticated’ AI is often frustrating, confusing and simply not fun or rewarding; often people say they want smart AI but in reality you want AI to appear smart, but still be simple and predictable.

Its a very interesting area of game design and technology

I agree, but I also think devs should have an option for people who want it, this way people complaining about it can just play with it and the people who just want to play the game normally can proceed as usual.

This also opens up the game for some extra replay ability, for anyone looking to defeat the sophisticated AI.

People claim to want good AI, they also want to be able to survive in a world infested by deadly opponents which is a bit contradictory.

No dev will agree to this workload of designing, implementing and testing two different AI systems.

Yeah, that’s more than likely. I do wonder if the current AI tech could be used to do the work for the sophisticated version, while the devs only work on their own?

If you take the effort to make AI by AI i think you will make all your AI by AI (thats a sentence xD). Still have to train and test this repeatedly.

Give me good AI in racing games, in sports games. Heck, give me better AI in all games! Having AI that can beat you easily while playing fair and using the same stuff the player can is great, as an option.

I’ve always felt like Turn10’s drivatar system was perfect for this sort of thing. Basing the AI off of the driving data of real people is fun in a racing game. Actually, having multiple opponents bounce their car off of me to get through a turn might not be the best thing afterall…

I don’t care about challenge but I like it when AI characters in games can do things that are interesting, surprising, funny, or wild. Halo games are usually good for that kind of thing.

Any 4k edits o n youtube showing just the gameplay? Seems They did not relase one like that like they did for Indy

I was genuinely looking forward to this when it first showed it’s face a few years back…

Now I’m not overly that concerned about it. I’d take Ara History Untold anyday now.

I agree with the people saying it, hopefully future games will have better AI.

I think I remember Todd saying Fallout was purposely scaled down, because the enemies continued to kill each other and to me that sounds fun. Imagine having a Deathclaw chasing you and you leading it into an enemy’s camp, then picking up all the loot after the battle.

I definitely think smarter AI that can gang up on you and make you really have to think how to kill them can be fun.

I just don’t think people want smarter AI in every game, like in RPGs to really make the game feel alive having smarter AI would be great, yet something like shooters be it Call of Duty the vast majority of those gamers are more casual gamers and I don’t want those games to be more difficult.

I can see people wanting harder games to incorporate things like in Perfect Dark where the more difficult level had you having to do more tasks, over the enemies just being more of a bullet sponge.

We can already lead enemies factions to camps and have them attack it if we back off quick enough(first time I did was in Skyrim, I usually use a giant or mammoth).

Enemies try to surround me all the time when I play the Fallout or Starfield, but between using guns, taking the high ground(this isn’t as effective in Starfield, as I can’t take the high ground as much take a few shots and back off after needing to reload or heal without some enemy boost packing on my position) and constantly moving that makes it rare because they all have the ranged option. In Skyrim it happens more often unless you’re playing a stealth archer or I’m playing a stealth blade or I lower the difficulty and can just kill them quick enough.

Edit: Why do I keep forgetting wizards? So anyways playing a wizard also doesn’t give npc much if a chance to use any surround strategy because of the crowd control a lot of spells provide.

Btw we’re getting more information about Avowed.

That’s not all for Avowed, however – make sure to tune in to the Xbox Podcast on Monday, January 22 for an exclusive interview with some of Obsidian’s developers, offering even more information on the gameplay reveal.

Edit: Podcast is out.

Raw gameplay makes me want to play this now.

There’s new gameplay in there? I shall watch!

Everything looks good, just need to see the character creator, character progression, and more of the world and characters.
