The spiritual follow-up to Crazy Taxi is out now 1000Gād over the course of the weekend and last night. The skill-based achievements are far less demanding than youād think (though 3 minutes in Pro mode requires you a decent amount of orientation, since you no longer get the arrow pointing out where to go), but Iām pretty proud that I managed to find some of the most elusive items and characters without the use of a guide that didnāt even exist as of last night.
Itās a pretty fun game, all in all! Itās a bit on the janky side of things and it doesnāt have the obscene speed and gnarly soundtrack of the Crazy Taxi games, but while rather unoriginal I still had a great time blasting through the cartoony streets of New York. The addition of jumping brings a whole new level of verticality to the city, and adds various hours of open world gameplay if high score chasing isnāt enough for you. Good game, certainly seems to be Lion Castleās best one so far.
588 days later, I finally finished the single player achievements in Project Cars 2 (815g). Now letās see if I will be able to get the online done.
Edit: I just tested: the most difficult online achievements in the game are now easily boostable solo! I believe there are only two quick achievements where you need a partner, but those can be done in less than 10 minutes.
On a side note, the Series X is truly incredible for achievement hunting. Iāve been cutting completion times in many games by at least 1 hour.
I agree. Microsoft should be doing so much more with the achievements system, considering they were at the forefront of this whole thing to begin with. I feel there should be some type of milestone system in place.
Itās great to see sites like True Achievements doing so much of the heavy lifting with unique community events and the like but thereās only so much you can do.
I think when Jez says āSometimes, Microsoft listens too much to statistics.ā or something along those lines, heās totally right.
For example, when they had removed achievements from the console menu bar (or buried them a bit more) they immediately reversed afterwards after feedback. I think they had originally did this because they though not as many people were using that tab, but honestly it felt very weird not having it.
I think something like this could be fixed the more Microsoft embraces the āCustomize Your Experienceā route.
This could really expand to achievements, profile badges, visibility, etc.
I really like Project Cars. It has a good mix between simulation and arcade racing, with many different cars and tracks. The fact that you can always play on easy with more forgiving rules is also a really nice thing to help make the races more relaxing.
I bought the Deluxe Edition on sale back in July 2019, when I started playing. I dropped it after winning the careerās first season, and only came back to it on April 2020, when I completed the Zero to Hero achievement for winning a Tier 1 Championship after starting on Tier 6. I grabbed some more miscellaneous achievements and dropped the game again since I didnāt think I would be able to grab the online achievements.
For some reason I came back to it this week and realized that the achievements were actually quite easy. The multiplayer achievements were really grind, but I discovered that I could potentially boost it by myself.
I then finished the single player achievements and started grinding the online. I basically had to complete 350 online races for an achievement, as well as look out for the Safety First achievement for getting a B Online Reputation Grade (basically I couldnāt crash). After getting said grade I found out that I could start a race, exit to the boxes and quit the race, and that would still count as a completed race. So I did that 300 more times and got the final achievement lol
Now Iām back to playing for fun rather than completions Started up Alan Wake the other night, a game I have had in my backlog for a long time but never gotten around to. Pretty great so far! A bit old in many parts, but the story is intriguing and Iām hooked.
I played it the last couple of days and have to say it still looks rather good in the forest areas with the storm effects and the lighting if you use a flare gun is unmatched. And Auto HDR does improve the picture.
Yes, I find that balance to be very important. Whenever I feel gaming is a chore, itās time to mix things up a bit. I have soo many good games in the backlog that I wanāt to get around to as well.
Yeah, the lighting and effects is great. The Series X is really making the game shine as good as it can tbh.
Itās too bad really, but the buggy achievements ruined the game a bit for me. Itās allready repetitive but I had to grind the crap out of it before the last one unlocked and that soured my experience of the game overall.
I really hate when stuff doesnāt work like they are supposed to.
I experienced a lot of general bugs in the game itself. More than once it wouldnāt register when I would dive down to pick up things from the water. I had to fly away, land somewhere and come back before it would work. I also think there were more than a few times in Chapter 2 where my shots just werenāt registering. After dying a few times on one particular mission, I just decided to call it quits rather than continue to waste 10-15 minutes flying back and beating the first group of enemies so I could then fly to the next set and get murdered.
As I said before, I just found the entire experience boring, and I really enjoy dogfighting games. Kudos to those of you who stuck it out on this game.
Mhm, I had several missions that I had to start over because it just wouldnāt move on to the next objective. That is always super fun.
It also bothered me that there was no way to switch ammo types, that I didnāt get to keep my birds between chapters etc. lots of little things like that.
Definitely one of my favorite games from the last generation. Gorgeous planets, great exploration, interesting characters, amazing powersā¦ AND NO FREAKING FAST TRAVEL.
Seriously, the planets are huge. Having to go after all the collectibles without a fast travel between checkpoints is awful enough. But not being able to even fast travel directly to the ship after collecting everything on the planet is just cruel. Seriously, it was so frustrating finally finding that last collectible after two hoursā¦ and then getting lost on the way back to the ship.
For that reason I finished the (fantastic) story back in November 2019 (when the game launched!) and couldnāt bother going after the rest of the achievements because of the lack of fast travel. I even tried going back to the game on May 2020, but dropped it again in frustration. But now I finally completed the game, 468 days later!
