Achievement Hunting |OT| Every point counts

I recall seeing a tweet from an MS person who works on achievements saying they’re looking at the system in general after launch, can’t find it now though was a few months ago.

Yeah, I think they are working on it. The absence of an achievements section on the new Xbox app might have something to do with it – probably they are redesigning the whole system before implementing it in the app.

Besides, when they changed the guide in the preview build to show a “Games Tab”, they reiterated the narrative that achievements are important for them.

Most of PS5 trophy lists went live:

https://www.exophase.com/platform/ps5/

We can see Planet Coaster, Devil May Cry 5, Call of Duty, Overcooked trophies – they should be the same on Xbox. We can also see Godfall trophies, which should make its way to Xbox next year.

As expected, they have different lists for games that are Smart Delivery on Xbox. Dirt 5, Valhalla, Watch Dogs and even Borderlands 3 can be stacked.

Well, Smart Delivery is obviously a big win overall, but this is a little sting.

I really hope it’s gonna be Tetris for the game of the month. I think that’s the sort of game everyone is familiar and relatively good with, so it would be fun to see the community compete in it. On the other hand, Gears Tactics isn’t that hard, it’s more of a grind to finish everything.

I’m not sure how I feel about stacked achievements lists, but I wish Microsoft would at least add a “Series X|S” below the name of the game. It is hard to feel a new generation achievements-wise if there is nothing indicating the new consoles on the achievements lists :frowning: Maybe something like this, with the Series X|S tag aswell:

Yeah, I’m really hoping for Tetris since it can be a little fun game to relax between long gameplays of the likes of Valhalla and Yakuza. I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to play through Gears :frowning:

But by the looks of it the poll will end with a draw. I really hope someone comes with the deciding vote!

Well… as the OP the descision would be yours if it remains a tie. Imho of course.

Actually I feel like my vote should be the one with less weight. So in the case of a draw, the featured game will be the one I didn’t vote for – in the current scenario, Gears Tactics.

There is still time, though! :stuck_out_tongue:

Completion #89: Ori and the Will of the Wisps

  • Estimated Difficulty: 5/10
  • Estimated Time: 20-25 hours

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of the best games from this generation. Refined gameplay, challenging platform sections, gorgeous visuals and a emotional story. It has everything that a metroidvania game aims to have.

Achievements-wise, it requires you to do everything in the game. Literally. You have to get all the collectibles, upgrades and finish the game on the hardest difficulty. On top of that, it also requires you to speed through the game in under 4 hours, as well as beating it without dying, upgrading or even equipping new abilities.

I beat the game back in August on the hardest difficulty while collecting everything. It took me 17 hours to do so – mainly because I suck at metroidvanias in the sense of getting lost a lot lol Since I don’t like beating the same game twice back to back, I left it behind with 6 achievements left for the completion.

But then I decided it would be my Xbox One’s swan song. One final completion before the Series X arrives in a few days. Ori was the perfect game to do so: challenging enough to make me fell proud without ridiculous requirements that would make me rage, while also being a great game that shows how far Xbox has come since 2013, and how bright of a future it has.

And then it happened. My final completion on my Xbox One. It also ends my personal challenge of completing as many Smart Delivery games as I could possibly complete before the arrival of the next-generation – it was the way I found to keep me entertained and distracted from the hype.

In theory, Ori is my 8th “Series X completion”, right after Ark: Survival Evolved, Forza Horizon 4, Marvel’s Avengers, Mortal Kombat 11, The Touryst, Concept Destruction and Watch Dogs: Legion – games that when put together took me around 400 hours to complete. I finally got back the joy of hunting achievements – something I had lost when I made the switch to Xbox.

Now, here comes next-gen!

This is cool but also disappointing. At least there are free upgrades.

I haven’t played any Ori-game… Mainly because I suck at platforming games. Maybe I should give 'em a try? There won’t be any 1000 GS for me though, hehe.

In my case, I have just found out that I can change the career difficulty and that I don’t need to win every race hahahaha The game will be a breeze now!

They are fantastic! My first game from this genre was Guacamelee back on the PS3 and I loved it! Those games are usually short (~6 to 8 hours) with a great sense of progression. You keep getting new abilities that let you access new areas you couldn’t go before. And there is also a great learning curve, so there are big chances of you becoming a platformer master by the end of the game haha It is nothing like the platform sections in the likes of Celeste or Cuphead, btw.

And you can still get ~750g on Ori if you play the game on Easy!

Aight, you sold it. I’ll fire em up on the Series X. Which I just got a mail that mine shipped! Currently in the Netherlands… I’m so excited, haha.

So Bullet Beat got an update that adds 1,000G. Not sure i like that Cheevo Guides guy working with the easy GS game publishers doing this. Sure making games easier but not just adding massive amounts of GS. Took me less than 10 mins to get that new 1K so :woman_shrugging:

Good stuff guys. I’ll be falling behind since end of the year is here and I gotta spend some more time with the family. Will keep playing but I don’t know if I’ll be making top ten till January again. (Unless Ratalaika has a massive sale :stuck_out_tongue:)

To everyone planning to start achievement hunting on Valhalla on Tuesday:

  • To get 100% Completion in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla it takes over 120 Hours. A minimum of 40 hours for story, at least 70-80 hours for all Collectibles and World Events, and another 10 Hours for miscellaneous trophies / achievements (such as winning against all Orlog players, catching all Fish). This estimate is for easy difficulty and it will take longer on higher difficulties.

That’s going to be 120 hours well spent! Will likely finish it sometime in January

Oh man I have sooo much AssCreed in front of me… I’m about half way through Syndicate now (really liking it btw) at 35 hours. Then Origins with all the DLC…and then Odyssey with all the DLC…and then Valhalla…
