Every GamerScore earned from now until next Monday 06:20 AM (UTC) will count towards week 63âs ranking. Every GamerScore earned until December 1, 2021 06:20 AM (UTC) will also count towards Novembers ranking.
Donât forget that this topic is first and foremost destined to talk about all your achievements and trophies, discuss completions and even try to gather people for a boosting session! The ranking is just a side activity to take part in.
It does to a lot of people though. It would be in Microsofts best interest to keep people hooked to the system. I personally know a few people that never jumped ship last gen because they were so attached to their gamertag/score.
I really hope they see the value in achievements and update it for the people that still love collecting them.
They made the OG Holy Grail easy game backwards compatible so maybe it is a sign someone cares. Funny to think Avatar had a different achievement list in dev but changed at the last minute.
Oh, donât get me wrong, I love collecting achievements, so it has value to me, but it doesnât have any universal value so they canât devalue it in that sense is what I meant. I personally donât think those quick 1k games devalue it at all, but I understand that others might agree. I donât know of a good way to âfixâ it though without going back to someone arbitrarily deciding which games are allowed to have a full 1k and which arenât.
According to Jason Ronald at Xbox achievements are being looked at some more to see if/how they want to update the system (full disclosure, I havenât listed to this podcast, just going off of whatâs said in the tweet):
https://twitter.com/Crusader3456/status/1462459275398336512
I remember when they used to give out Avatar awards and gamer pics for certain achievements. It would definitely be cool if they figured out a cool new rewards system.
Also, itâll probably never happen, but one way to solve the âvalueâ issue would be to team up with TrueAchievements to integrate their TA score. Or, just come up with something similar. As it stands, they do show you the ârarityâ of each achievement, but it doesnât mean anything in the long run.
The only idea I want Xbox to copy from trophies is the automatic screenshot. Thatâs really cool. Other than that, donât make it more like trophies. The reason I like gamerscore instead of trophies is that it doesnât do those things.
Getting back to achievements unlocking avatar gear/themes/other outside-of-game awards would be great though.
Definitely agree with 1 & 4, not a fan of 2 & 3. 2 is fine if itâs something like Avatar awards again, but Iâve seen people suggest that they essentially be allowed to âspendâ achievement points like money, which Iâm very against.
As long as we can turn it off without completely disabling screenshots at a system level. I know in the older Battlefield games every time you leveled up it would take a video clip of it which was super annoying, but the only way to disable it was to completely disable recording at a system level, which I didnât want to do. Make it an optional thing (or at least an option to not have the pop-up on your screen) and Iâm on board.
Xbox had that at the start of Xbox One generation, except it was usually video clips captured. After many vocal complaints about that, it was scaled back and then removed entirely from future games by the developers.
Yeah I remember it was excessive in Forza Horizon 2. Like it would save a video clip every time you got a decent skill chain. Felt really awesome and futuristic the first couple times, but then you were like, I donât actually need 10 new clips every time I sit down to play.
Platinum equivalent and a leaderboard that shows your rarest platinums in order of rarity.
Take the True achievement score idea and apply it with a color scheme. Imagine you have a 60% competition rate, well now your gamescore number is colored gold, 80% and up will give your gamescore a platinum color. That way when you look at someoneâs gamescore youâd have a better idea if theyâve been cheesing easy achievements or really been putting time into harder completions. Yes you could have 200,000 gamerscore but if itâs mostly coming from easy completions then youâll have a bronze or silver coloured gamerscore.
rare achievements should be changed from less than 10% to less than 5%. I unlock rare achievements so often, especially with gamepass games that it doesnât exactly feel special.
there should be a â100%â section when viewing a friends achievements to get a quick view of what games theyâve 100%. I have 74 completions but theres no way to show them off unless someone spends the time to scroll all the way through the hundreds of games i played
I definitely agree with this. Game Pass is amazing, but it has made a lot of achievements much rarer than they actually should be. I think Xbox actually counts every player that has booted up the game whereas TA only counts every player that has earned at least one achievement, so even that would help. There are some games Iâve quit out of before I got a single achievement because they were just that bad, but there are also games that I started by accident (or on purpose for a quest) but havenât actually played past the main menu yet, so itâs silly to count me in that completion %.
I really donât like any of these ideas with the exception of adding a Platinum equivalent. Iâve never been a completionist when it comes to achievements/trophies. Iâve always treated them as some sort of gaming journaling system and not an epeen. It should be a record of your achievements, not something to lord over others.
The â100% wallâ is a great idea and really would just be bringing back something that was part of the 360 UI but not carried forward.
Here is my $0.02 about other ideas. I think the thing thatâs great about gamerscore is its simplicity. Itâs just a number. There is only one piece of context you need to understand it: that each game generally awards 1000 points. Now you have the information you need to appreciate how impressive a score is or to compare one score to another (again-- in general).
Consider the trophy system. Say my trophy level is 13. Is that good? What does that mean? Well, itâs generated from an obscure calculation based on the number of platinum, gold, silver, and bronze trophies you have. How much more is one trophy worth than another? How many trophies does each game award? Every game has one platinum, except when they donât. Itâs all complicated and arbitrary. Thatâs why I donât want gamerscore to move closer to the way the trophy system does things.
I still havenât finished that one yet, but Iâm working through Haven now to see if I can finish it before it leaves Game Pass (and so far I really, really like it).
Anybody know why they decided to completely hide achievement functionality from the Xbox PC app? When you clicked on a game it would drop down an info panel that would include the Achievement icon as well as your progress, but now it doesnât. Also, under all of that it would actually show you all of the individual achievements and whether they were unlocked or not, and now thatâs gone too.
I really donât understand why they would hide all of that. The only way to tell if a game has achievements now (since not all pc titles in gamepass for pc do) is to check the âCapabilitiesâ section and hope that itâs actually included (which isnât even always the case).
