8 months later and I’m back to Watch Dogs Legion to tackle the DLC achievements.

Surprise, surprise: the achievements are bugged.

Update

As many of you know, we’ve been pondering some changes to the scoring system for our Weekly, Monthly and Gamepass “Game of the Month” challenges. After much deliberation, @CallMeCraig and I have decided on some key points that we believe will make these competitions a bit more inclusive for all members.

Current Scoring System

  • Weekly challenge awards 10 points to the person with the most gamerscore during that week. Each spot after receives one less point with 10th place receiving 1 point. Those who didn’t make the “Top-10” receive 0 points.

  • Monthly challenge awards 100 points to the person with the most gamerscore during that month with each spot after receiving 10 less points with 10th place receiving 10 points. Those who didn’t make the “Top-10” receive 0 points.

  • Gamepass “Game of the Month” challenge awards 100 points to the person/s with the most gamerscore in said game at the end of the month. Those who don’t come in 1st place receive 0 points.

New Scoring System

  • Weekly challenge will now award 50 points to the person with the most gamerscore at the end of the week with each subsequent spot receiving 2 less points than the previous for a total of 25 spots instead of 10. In addition, any member who tallies at least 1 point of gamerscore during that week will be guaranteed to place in the lowest spot available and will receive points.

  • Monthly challenge will now award 50 points and will follow the same rules as the weekly challenge.

  • Gamepass “Game of the Month” challenge will also now award 50 points and will follow the same rules as the weekly and monthly challenges.

The general purpose of these changes is to make the leaderboard less “Top heavy” and allow for users to feel like they have a chance at earning some decent points even if they don’t have as much time to grind away at say the Gamepass Game of the Month for example. Spending a considerable chunk of time on trying to complete said game only to fall short by a few gamerscore and receiving nothing for your efforts can be a bit demoralizing. I’m sure plenty of users have looked at the Gamepass “GotM” and it’s completion estimate and decided it wouldn’t be worth playing.

Also, there are plenty of users who are playing games and gaining gamerscore, but find themselves out of the “Top-10” and are perpetually not gaining points. These changes are primarily designed help them feel like they are part of the community instead of being on the outside looking in.

Seasons

We’re introducing “Seasons” in an attempt to keep things fresh and exciting. Seasons will be in 6 month increments:

  • January 01 - June 30
  • July 01 - December 31

At the end of each season, we’ll announce a winner and reset the leaderboard. This will hopefully allow for new and/or lapsed users to get in on the action. As it stands now, getting to the top is almost impossible for new users and might be a deterrent from them wanting to participate.

We’re also toying with the idea of adding prizes for the winners of each season. Nothing is set in stone, but we have some “ideas” brewing. Also, the winners will naturally be immortalized in the top post of each new Achievement Hunting OT so everyone knows just how cool you are. :sunglasses:

For those wondering about the current leaderboard, we’ve decided to treat everything up till now (and through the end of this month) as “Season 1”. So, starting August 2nd, “Season 2” will officially start with all of the new rule changes. So get your hunting in now while you still can!

Future changes and User Feedback

While we believe these changes will foster a healthier and hopefully more evenly paced competition that’s much more inclusive to new users, we do understand that this is a community and we welcome any and all feedback you might have regarding these changes and any future changes you would like to see. You can either post them in the thread itself, or you can send a PM to @CallMeCraig or myself @Shadowgasm . Who knows, we might even implement some of your ideas before “Season 2” starts on August 2nd!

New TA Leaderboard and New OT

Recently we’ve had some new users send a request to the XboxEra Leaderboard over on True Achievements. Unfortunately this leaderboard was created by the founder of this OT @brunopcosta1 who’s no longer actively involved with it and there’s no way to transfer the rights to it to another user.

In light of this, I have created a new leaderboard on TA: XboxEra Achievement Hunting OT Leaderboard

For new Users, just send me a request and I’ll be sure to add you! Remember to post in this thread with your Gamertag so I know it’s you and/or feel free to send me a PM.

For Existing users, I’ll be automatically adding you to the list as long as you’ve been active acquiring gamerscore in the past few months. For lapsed users, feel free to send another request if you find your name not on the list.

As far as a new OT, this is something that has been suggested by Bruno and several other members and will probably be implemented in the near future. So stay tuned for that.

Summary

Scores for Weekly, Monthly and Gamepass challenges are changing pretty drastically. We know these changes won’t please everyone, but we hope this spurs on a more evenly paced competition while also allowing some of the more casual users to feel like they might actually have a chance to compete with some of the “Power Users”.

We’re excited about these changes and we hope you are too. Happy Hunting!

Nice, curious about this one… Was it good?

I loved the game! There’s also a God Mode that makes the completion a breeze.

Hardest achievement was definitely scoring 1 million points on a chapter, and most boring was the one for finding all the wolves.

Sounds like a fun little game, I’ll slot it in somewhere between my bigger ones then!

Awesome. These changes are much appreciated.

That sounds like an exciting change indeed!

Every GamerScore earned from now until next Monday 06:20 AM (UTC) will count towards week 45’s ranking. Whoever earns the most GamerScore during the week will gain 10 points, the second place will gain 9 points, and so on.

Every GamerScore earned until August 1, 2021 06:20 AM (UTC) will also count towards July’s and Season 1 ranking. Whoever earns the most GamerScore during the month will gain 100 points, the second place will gain 90 points, and so on.

Don’t forget that this topic is first and foremost destined to talk about all your achievements and trophies, discuss completions and even try to gather people for a boosting session! The Ranking is just a side activity to take part in.

Only 2 weeks left for Season 1. Lets see who wins it all! Good luck everyone and happy hunting.

What are you guys thoughts on accessibility and cheats unlocking all achievements?

I’m not sure where I stand on it. Accessibility is excellent and is well overdue. Microsoft is leading the way in the right direction. But I do think it will devalue achievements for me to the point that you may as well just scrap them. Or maybe have one achievement for completing the game without cheats… I don’t know, haha.

Would it not make things like True Achievements and leaderboards pointless?

This is the point where you are asking this question? After Xitilol made a business out of handing gamerscore out like candy?

Celeste has an extensive set of accessibility modifiers, the TA ratio is still pretty low. I would not be worried about this stuff.

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer to this question, it’s just however the devs want to design their game. Personally I don’t tend to play games on the hardest difficulty in most cases, so if a game still lets me get 1000/1000, I welcome that. But if the game has difficulty related achievements, that’s cool too, I can decide to tackle the game on hard or just go without that achievement. That’s not unreasonable. So I don’t have like a “moral stance” on this issue, both ways are okay ways to design a game. It’s not like a brand new phenomenon either, since achievements came about there have been plenty of games that required upping the difficulty to get 1000, and plenty that didn’t. Even cheat codes not disabling achievements is not unheard of.

Awesome, these changes sound great. Obviously we won’t know for sure if they’re flawed in a new way until we start going through the new season but at the very least I think it’s a good change, and we can continue to tweak them in future seasons if need be.

Celeste is the game I immediately thought of when I saw this discussion on TA. The game allows you to turn on no damage, infinite boost, or both. I made it through the vast majority of the game without turning on any of the boosts but there were three (if I remember correctly) spots where I needed to turn on one or both to proceed, and then once I was past that point I turned them off again. I think this is a much better option than just telling me that I’m not allowed to complete the game once I reach that first super hard part.

As for the achievements, I have no problem with them still being awarded even with accessibility options turned on. While the people over at TA often try to argue otherwise, achievements have never had any actual value (and, if possible, they have even less now with Xitilol and the like). Maybe I’m biased because my partner has a physical disability, but she still loves gaming so it’s nice when games don’t “punish” her by not giving her achievements just because she had to turn on an accessibility option like holding a button instead of rapidly tapping it.

There are so many games you can beat in 5-10 minutes as well as games on PC that allow you to spam a few console commands to quickly get 1000gs that I don’t think this matters really. TA and the community at large has been ok with these methods up to this point, so I don’t see how this is any different. Plus, it’s not like every game is going to have cheats, and those that do will still most likely require you to actually play the game.

This is such a great point and one that I never thought of.
