-1 Wild Basterds

Well, my progress was short lived… I really enjoyed Void Basterds, so the sequel was always on my radar. It randomly went on sale this week!

-1.5 Zombie Army 4 (Prime/Epic giveaway) + Season Pass One (free)

I’ll count the season pass as one DLC? It’s three missions of about an hour each. (They’re also available as individual DLC. But they probably wouldn’t be considered “substantial” on their own. Right?)

There are full games shorter than an hour, so they’ll count  If they are indeed separate dlc it’s a -0.5 per. Easier to count that way too, maybe you don’t complete them all at once for example.

Fair enough. That’s -2.5 then. Made a note in my spreadsheet so I don’t forget.

For some reason while I loved sniper elite 4,i really didn’t love the movement in zombie army 4 which I assume is running on the same tech. I’m not sure why though, and I’m not a huge zombie person in general so I didn’t give it that much of a go when I tried it.

An update on a few completions this month:

Indy (GP) +0 I was bit skeptical of this when it was announced thinking what could they do to capture the magic of the movies from decades ago. Yeah I’ll admit I was very wrong and despite some flaws thoroughly enjoyed my time in the world adventuring across the globe. It didn’t get old knocking out Nazis or pushing them off ledges. And even having a sidekick was good with great dialogue between them.

Fire Emblem Warriors (NS) +1 Yeah this was probably bought thinking it was more a traditional FE game and not more Warriors style so a lot of the character references were lost. For me it was ok, completed it once but no interest to return.

Scarlet Nexus (XSX) +1 Such a mixed bag with this. Loved the art style and battles were great but then at the same time a lot of the enemies and fights got repetitive. The storyline was hard to follow yet interesting and dull at the same time. It may have helped doing some of the exposition in-between battles. Have no will for a second playthrough as rather spend time on another game.

And that game is like to be Yakuza: Like a Dragon so my next update may be a while

Still good to read others completions :+1:

I played it a couple of years ago on Game Pass, but don’t remember noticing anything negative. I rated it 8/10, so must’ve enjoyed it. Enough to grab it again for free, anyway.

I like these straightforward shooters. Even if the whole zombie thing has been done to death at this point.

  • +1 - Parasite Eve (Vita) - This game has a lot of sentimental value and yet I’ve never beaten it, despite buying it three times over nearly 30 years; I’d always get to Day Four, drop it in ADHD fashion and then restart because I couldn’t remember the story when I’d inevitably pick it back up years later. I finally beat it today on my Vita OLED (arguably one of the best ways to experience it), and I’m glad I finally did.

The story is a bunch of pseudoscience perfectly belonging in 90s storytelling and it has a beautiful blend of The Thing, Resident Evil, and Ghostbusters 2 in its atmosphere. Its combat system is still a relatively unique blend of active and turn-based, and the limited amount of weapons and armor mean you can basically pick a favorite set and upgrade through the course of the game. Overall, it’s still a great JRPG and I think its unorthodox nature (in setting and gameplay) really set it apart. 8/10 and now I’m excited to get through the rest of the series (I still have my PSX disc for PE2 and my UMD for Third Birthday).

Also started Assassins Creed Valhalla. Think this will be a low scoring big game clearance year :crossed_fingers:

  • +1 - After Burner Climax (X360) - I’ve had this one since 2010 (love that the achievement history shows dates) and I can’t believe it took me this long to get through it. Beat the game three times with each jet, and honestly I couldn’t tell a difference between each model. That aside, it was a solid modernization of an arcade classic.

I held off on these zero point free to play games to post at once.

+0 Realm Royale Reforged

I finished it with a group since the servers are being shut down in a few weeks. It was the Smite developer’s, Hi Rez, attempt at a Fortnite clone. It started as a midievel fantasy battle Royale, but later added a team death match mode. It never really knew what it was trying to do and obviously didn’t take any players away from Fortnite.

+0 XDefiant

Another one I finished due to server closure in a few months. I actually really enjoy this game and think it may be ahead of its time, causing it’s failure a year after launch. It’s a tactical team based shooter using all of Ubisofts IP.

You choose a faction from groups found in Far Cry, Rainbow Six, The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and Assassin’s Creed, each with a choice of unique themed ability and ultimate. Then you choose a load out ala COD, with a primary and secondary weapon, each with their own attachments and skins, as well as a gadget.

Progression was split into a few paths, there was the battle pass to unlock the newest weapon, character challenges to unlock more characters, weapon challenges to unlock more weapons, weapon levels to unlock attachments and skins, character levels to unlock skins, long term xp goals to unlock new factions, and player account levels to unlock new game modes.

This created a game with a great variety of play styles, strategy, and teamwork. Not to mention that they later added a Playlist with single lives, adding to the need to strategies and play as a team. They even added the bomb mode from R6 Siege toward the end! But that highlights it’s downfall. Why not just play Siege? It’s free to play now as well. Why not play another popular hero shooter? There’s no shortage of them!

+0 Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms

This appealed to me as an experienced D&D player. It’s an idle game set in the world of D&D. The mechanics focus a lot on the party formation, which felt vaguely like playing the tabletop game. The characters are all from various places, like the rulebooks, novels, movies, TV show, and even other video games like Never winter. I enjoyed my time going through familiar locations like the Sword Coast and Water deep, but then it started to get really repetitive. They have events every three weeks to spice things up, but personally, I didn’t see a need to continue past the first few areas.

Welcome! The more the merrier

Do you have any purchases/completions yet this year or are you starting from 0?

+0 Maquette (Game Pass)

First person puzzle game, had a couple of times where controls didn’t seem to be as tight as I would like, especially one place where timing is important running between two points. That said, the game has some really pretty moments and interesting puzzle mechanics , and if you’re not too busy trying to get the achievements for speed running each chapter, a decent story about a couple meeting and how their relationship progresses.

Yeah heard its a long game but just love the viking setting. Just going to chip away and try not to over think getting it completed which will be months away if its that long lol

+0 Serious Sam Siberian Mayhem

I think the modern Serious Sam games feel like if classic Doom was remade to today’s standards. So there’s a feeling of nostalgia to go along with the over the top action and humor of the game. Personally, I liked this one, but not as much as Serious Sam 4, mostly because I played solo instead of coop.

I definitely enjoyed it. I liked Origins and Odyssey better, but it was still a great game. If you’re really into Vikings you should like it a lot.
