XboxEra's 2025 Backlog Challenge |OT| Games...So Many Games!

Same. I hadn’t played Powerwash in 18 months or so. Decided to check on DLC during our grace period in December and was shocked to see how many had released - so I promptly bought every single one. Ha.

Super Mario Odyssey (NSW) +1

Well, this is an odd one. This started out as a challenge from my 9-year old niece who was very amused that I had not finished this game on my Switch when she had “pretty much all the moons and everything”. Supposedly being the cool gaming uncle, I of course had to get back into her good graces so I set out to finish it  I had only tried it a little bit before this, it’s really not my thing and had quickly shelved it, so I was not looking forward to it. To my surprise I found it quite enjoyable, those damn moons called out to me after a while… and I ended up spending a lot more time with it than anticipated.

Decent game!

Oh shit!!! Didn’t even know you had a Switch.

Nice!! My friend is still waiting for Super Mario Odyssey 2. lol

I bought one back in the day for Zelda: BotW mainly. I only play it docked, with a Pro controller though

I have a small backlog on it too! Haha

Haha. I bought one in late 2017 for BOTW which lasted 20 hours or so and was then traded in the next day. I did play and complete Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Link’s Awakening Remake, New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, DKC Tropical Freeze and Ultimate Alliance 3.

While I don’t own them yet as I will wait for Switch 2, I want to play Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 3D World, Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and the TMNT: Splintered Fate game even though this one is coming to Xbox/PlayStation this year hopefully.

I also owned the Pro controller as im not using the joycons whatsoever. lol

A small backlog you say? I’m not surprised. lmao

I’ve used mine mostly for things like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Mario Party etc. when family/friends are over. But played things like BotW, Luigi’s Mansion 3, now Odyssey and tried a bunch of old shit via Nintendo Online.

I have 10-ish games in the backlog, so it really is small  I hope they’ll work on Switch 2!

I hope so too. Got a few games and a switch over the holidays, though I’m toying with reselling it and getting the new one instead. It was discounted enough to maybe be worth it.

Personally love my Switch OLED, though my wife originally bought the LCD model “for me” literally months before Animal Crossing came out lol. Legit in my top three favorite Nintendo consoles despite a rough couple years (as someone who owned the Wii U and all the games Nintendo was recycling). The backlog challenge really helped me focus on some of the games I’ve been meaning to beat/play on it too

My sister in law’s fiance got an OLED a couple summers ago and I was a little jealous, but am thinking it doesn’t make sense to open the one I got and should have just waited for the new one… Ebay looks like I could sell it for about regular price still so toying with it…

I never had any consoles growing up, and while I have the mini Nintendo consoles I’ve never opened them to play anything… I really need to fix that and play some old school stuff.

I’m happy to recommend games from any genre; my library is pretty vast across Nintendo, Sony, and Nintendo for classic stuff.

+0: Dead Island 2 (Game Pass) - Mediocre graphics, story and characters with awesomely brutal combat. Overall really good fun and time just flies while playing. Not a fan of the upgrade system where you level up your character, which levels up the enemies, requiring you to level up your weapons. After 30 hours you have the exact same character, weapons and enemies that you started with - except a “higher level.” It’s just dumb and wastes a bunch of time upgrading stuff with the endless loot you need to collect. (PS: If the game is censored in your country, make sure to change your console’s region before installing. Us Germans are apparently too sensitive for such gory goodness.)

+1: Trover Saves the Universe (Steam) - Waited for a decent sale price on Xbox for years now, but nope. So I picked it up on Steam during the holidays for 6 bucks or so. If you like Justin Roiland’s comedy (Rick & Morty, Solar Opposites) you’ll like this. It’s basically more of the same, in video game form. The game itself is a fairly simple 3D platformer with a few light puzzles and combat. But the comedy is what makes it. I can’t get the final story achievement to unlock, despite finishing the final level 4 or 5 times. But that’s the only negative I have.

Not sure if the free DLC counts for this one? Took me about 90 minutes without a guide. (Although you can probably finish it in 30 minutes.) They added it a few months after release and it just comes with the main game now.

Doom 3 +1
Super Mega Textures! Taking a wee break from the old 360 back catalog and trying to knock out some Xbox One games. I think I played this on PC back when I was in college. Never ended up completing it, just used cheats and mucked about. Still a really enjoyable FPS that takes the whole Doom story and makes some sense out of it. One big omission was the lack of sweet metal music when things ramp up.

Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil +0.5
Doom 3 with a Gravity Gun and an Artifact that allows you to go into matrix mode. Basically 2005 gaming in a nutshell.

Doom 3: The Lost Mission +0.5
Eight levels of cut content from Doom 3 with a new character and enemies.

Ive actually completed 13 games so far this year. But they were all in emulation station on my steam deck, so none of them count.

They count in my heart! You’re beating games and even if they don’t count for the contest, you’re still killing it in my book

Also, if it makes you feel better, part of why my pace has slowed is that I’m going through a lot of emulated games while I’ve been testing out my new RP5. Never count any of those games obviously either, and gods know I have more than enough physical/digital backlog to keep a man busy for a lifetime lol.

I count them if I actually own the cart, but unfortunately I dont own any of the ones Ive beat so far.

Oh totally, if you own the game physically or digitally, but decide to emulate on another device, that’s still your backlog

I… don’t know. No experience with that game. Would you have taken a negative 0.5 for it? That’s how I usually look at it.

Good question. Probably not, because I didn’t know about it until I started the game.

Happy to just leave it as a +1, tbh.

+1 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

First completion of the year! As a former 5 star Pathfinder GM and Venture Captain, I was interested in this game, but knew it would be more fun with others. I had a few friends play with me at release but only got about halfway through the game. Finally found someone on discord to play through the rest with me!
