XboxEra's 2024 Backlog Challenge |OT| Surely this is the year?

Congrats to all the top finishers. I’ve been doing this for several years now and I don’t think we have ever come close to those completion totals before. Very impressive!

Big thanks to Mort for keeping everything organized.

This was great fun as usual. One of my highlights of every week is checking in to see what everyone has been playing and finishing.

I hope to see all of you back at it in January!

-0 - Dragon Age: Veilguard (XSX) - I know the contest is over but it feels damn good to pick up a game and not feel guilty lol. Check your “For You” deals on the store - this was only $38 for me so I couldn’t pass it up.

Anyway everyone, enjoy the sales if you can

Haha yeah… There’s some really good deals in this sale too. I’m sure I’ll pick up a few myself. I’ll try to limit myself to games I will actually play sometime soon though. DA: The Veilguard is very high on that list for sure.

My 2024 game of the year, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is such an excellent game in my opinion. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

Will probably buy the Vessel of Hatred expansion for Diablo IV since it’s on sale for $30 and I own the base game. Of course, I still have to play the base game at some point. Hehehe.

While not on sale since it just released ten days ago, I just played the Fantasian Neo Dimension demo for just over an hour and wanted to keep playing. It’s an old school turn based JRPG with random battles. It’s a port of a mobile game developed by Mistwalker and was created by the creator of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi. Anyone who likes old school JRPG’s, I would suggest trying out the free demo which is under 5GB.

Oh that’s second on my list! And no, I haven’t finished the main game yet either haha.

Don’t worry, if I join next year I’ll be last by so far I’ll need a telescope to see everyone else!

My only chance is I’ve gone so nuts in the sales this year that I may have bought almost every game I’m interested in currently, but then looking at the 2025 offerings I think I’m screwed…

Avowed, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, The Outer Worlds 2, South of Midnight, KCD2, AC Shadows, Atomfall, Civ 7, Anno 117 Pax Romania, The Alters and Fable (plus any other first party) are guaranteed pick ups next year, plus maybe Marvel 1943 and anything good that manages to make next year.

Doesn’t help I buy Xbox or PC games when they go cheap on CDKeys, can’t help but pick something up every major Xbox or Steam sale, usually grab the free Epic games, have Humble Choice (the monthly 8 to 10 games for like ten quid) as well as the obvious GPU with EA.

I only manage to game like 20 or so hours a week if I’m lucky (been so gutted as been ill during my Christmas annual leave where I get most gaming done so have lost a third of my gaming time) so I have no idea how on earth I’m going to finish my backlog, ever…

My only hope is a nice retirement place once I’m old(er) where new-fangled games I don’t understand so I sit there playing old stuff while I can still see and control it!

Been there, done that. But I’ve gotten a lot better at resisting. And this challenge has definitely helped me get even better. (Pretty sure I bought way less games this year than ever before. I also permanently removed about 150 games from my Steam account, which felt great!)

I’ve gotten my mindset to a point where I’ll only buy/claim a game under very specific circumstances.

  1. I must want to play the game. (Not just “eh… maybe one day?”)
  2. Buy it only if I want to play it now - or if it’s the cheapest it’ll ever be.

Now I just have to pull myself together during this grace period. (Some tempting free stuff on Prime Gaming right now, dammit!)

Ah crap I forgot about Prime Gaming, I keep claiming stuff off there too!

I’m very much a “everything just in case” person - I once packed the car boot with every medication, drink and type of food we had for a day out thinking we’d maybe get stuck there in the heat only to discover it was 20 minutes away and we were only going for a few hours or so.

Over-prepared is my middle name :stuck_out_tongue: I keep tons of games downloaded too even though I’ve got gigabit internet simply because I think “I may get around to that soon and don’t want to be stuck waiting, my gaming time is too precious”.

Permanently removing games from my Steam account I think would give me nightmares for weeks lol…

I don’t even have a PC now, but I keep claiming the free prime games, GOG giveaways, and occasional Steam freebie. But I do believe in my heart that I will have a way to play them one day!

Hey cool, thanks!

Haha… it was mostly bundle-games I picked up years ago that I’ll never play. Like… literally never. Not if I lived forever.

There are already too many games I do want to play, without hundreds more just cluttering up my libraries.

I just wish I could remove games on other platforms. :grimacing:

I think Xbox at least lets you hide them on a specific device, but it only works there and you’d have to do it again if you bought a new device. And they’re only really hidden, not gone. But it might help a little.

I hide every game that I’ve finished playing. (99% sure that it carried over from my Xbox One to Series X.)

But my brain says if it’s only hidden, it’s still there and accessible. It needs to be gone.

Yeah no I hear you. I wish I could be like “I hated this don’t ever show it to me again” etc.

I’ll be buried with mine!

(But guess you’re right, by then I’ll be free of it! Unless Hell is making me finish up all the games on my backlog I just couldn’t get into / be arsed with :stuck_out_tongue:)

Seriously, this right here. I can’t tell you how much of a drive this gave me to play outside of my comfort zone for the first time in a while, and hearing everyone’s thoughts on their play throughs was something I genuinely looked forward to.

Same here, it’s been very good for my gaming habits, and spending lol. I really enjoy reading everyones “mini-reviews” and talk about the games we play etc.

This will only happen when those who have a backlog quit gaming or are no longer on this Earth. But until that day, I say praise and enjoy your backlogs!!! :stuck_out_tongue:
