XboxEra's 2024 Backlog Challenge |OT| Surely this is the year?

Go for it. I’m happy with backlog reduction. Looking forward to avowed, atomfall and south of midnight next year. Think I’ll come back next year but will be a lot less completions from the backlog.

Ok 19.5 :+1:

@APOPHIS1989 sorry you’ll need another .5 now :crossed_fingers:

That may be too much, I don’t know if I can do that… We’ll just have to tie for fourth instead!

  • +1 - House of the Dead Remake (XSX) - loved this back in the day when my brother and I would play it between rounds of LaserQuest. Definitely not the worst OTR shooter, but damn if it’s not remarkably short.

How does it play with controller? I remember playing it back in the day with light gun. Loved some virtua cop as well.

It’s… weird. Almost way too easy at the same time as well because you can now fire and reload at the same time, effectively taking most of the difficulty away. Still it’s a cool way to experience the game on modern hardware and overall decent-remake.

+1 Lego DC Super-Villains

Somewhat of a letdown after the last one, I think though part of my problem with it is that I don’t have THAT much familiarity with the greater DC universe and I was constantly confused by who the villains and super-heroes that I was playing as were and what their powers were, so I got stuck on puzzles more than I’d expected. I think this is the first main-line Lego game I’d played where you design the “main” player and then at the end decide if you want to be good or bad, so that was interesting.

+1 VVVVVV (Steam)

In its original form this gravity-reversing platformer is probably on the extreme end of the difficulty/frustration scale. I pretty quickly quickly turned on a couple of accessibility options to get through it with only minor frustrations, though.

+1 Raji An Ancient Epic: Played through maybe 1 level just before it left Game Pass a couple years back. Thought it was pretty cool so picked it up, but never came back to it. This game mixes some platforming & fighting with different weapon types (my favorite was the sword & shield once I unlocked them), while exploring (mostly optional) stories about Hindu gods. The game has great music with quite a bit of variety and I thought it was quite pretty at times. I played on story mode which made things a bit easier for myself, but I think some of the combat could be quite challenging on harder difficulties. Not bad, glad I picked it up to finish it.

+1 Observation: You play as an AI in a space station after something happened to it, and are trying to restore your functions and help one of the crew find the rest of the crew. I kind of expected it to take a turn, and it definitely did, but it still ended up somewhere different than I was expecting. I’m not sure how anyone would actually complete the collectibles (memories) without a guide, esp for figuring out everything that you have to join together to create new ones.

  • +1 - Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium: Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix (XOne) - Still love this fighter just as much as when it was in the arcades. Far simpler than any of the other Street Fighter entries obviously, but a fun one all the same.

+1 Lake

Nice, relaxing game where you play as a woman going back home to take over her dad’s postal carrier route for a couple weeks, taking a break from a high paced corporate job working on Addit '87 (which I assume is maybe Excel '87 ). You catch up with old friends and meet some new people and get asked to do a bunch of favors that probably are against postal regulations. Story is not bad though probably not everyone’s cup of tea. There are certain places you can kind of tell they had to cut corners, but I think what got to me the most was a fairly limited radio that played the same songs a LOT. Still, there’s a lot of charm in this game and it was pretty fun to run around and deliver packages and letters for a while.

+1 Limbo

Not so relaxing as the previous game. It was very good, it’s solid and don’t think I ran into any bugs or anything, but it also is very demanding of perfection. Thankfully you don’t typically go back that far when you die. Enjoyed the challenge but don’t know that I’d try for the 5 or fewer deaths one, don’t think I’ve got that in me. Even when I figured out puzzles and knew the pattern, getting the timing ALMOST right several times in a row was a little maddening.

Lol love Lake, alongside Powerwash Simulator it’s one of my go-to chillout games - the DLC is pretty cool for it too and gives more background (and is Christmas themed if want to get in the mood lol).

The endless play mode they added later on and it allows you to just do the deliveries part without the story - it’s weirdly relaxing…

I saw the Christmas part and wasn’t sure, might have to check it out. Endless mode also sounded like it could be fun. I’m keeping it installed for now and might go do that later too. Just maybe with different music

  • +1 - Castlevania Advance Collection: Harmony of Dissonance (XSX) - I started out this game thinking it would be my least favorite (I played it originally on GBA and felt the big, bright chunky art was a major step back from CotM, as one point of contention), and I ended up loving it. I still dislike the art and overall castle design, but the story and playing as Juste is such a cool change up (arguably the most powerful Belmont) from CotM and AoS. I still recommend this bundle to everyone I can because it’s such a great collection of amazing games, age be damned.
