XboxEra's 2024 Backlog Challenge |OT| Surely this is the year?

I decided to jump into Metro Exodus and really enjoying it more than I thought I would. Great story and area/enemy variety.

-1 Talos Principle II

I loved the first one and have been waiting for the sequel to go on sale!

-1 Persona 3 Reload collector’s edition

I was addicted to the game when it hit game pass, basically only playing it all of February. I normally would have waited until it left game pass before buying my own copy, but I found a physical steel book edition that includes an Aegis statue, the OST, and all the originally released DLC for only $70 this week, so I jumped on it.

-? Persona 5 Royal collector’s edition

I have already taken a - 1 this year for buying the game digitally, so I don’t know if I take another - 1 for buying it physically on the same platform. It’s the next one in the series I plan to play after P3R. It was also on sale this week for $50 and came with steel book, arcana tarot deck, briefcase, treasure chest, and more. Although I have only played P3R for any significant time, I consider the series one of my favorite, thus this was worth it.

-1 Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

The only Yakuza game I like is Like a Dragon, and I hear only good things about the sequel. Again, I hadn’t planned to buy this before finishing the first, but for $15, I didn’t think I would find a better deal for years.

It would be the same game, with the same achievement list etc. right? If so, you’ve allready taken the -1 for that one!

Nice haul!

Yes, same achievement list. Only difference is digital vs physical.

+0 Botany Manor (Xbox) Played this as my easy achievement game for rewards, enjoyable and pretty easy to follow, decent story and some pretty flowers. Liked it well enough. Also found that the windows version has separate achievements so decided to start that for my daily pc game.

+1 Oh… Sir! Insult Simulator. Got this because it has a bunch of Monty Python scenes, but it wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. At least it was cheap, normal price is low and I think it was under $1 when I got it. Basically a bunch of short scenes where you and your opponent construct insults out of phrases and nouns, try to get silly ones and ones that have monty python references. It’s ok but a bit telling that the achievement for completing 100 matches is titled It Gets Boring After An Hour. Has a few achievements that are based on random luck of getting the right pieces in the right order and being able to use them, which can be frustrating (and can take hours if you’re unlucky). Probably wouldn’t recommend. Unsure if I’ll bother trying the sequel that I also have.

I enjoyed Botany Manor too. Very relaxing game, with quite a few little tidbits to read here and there to get more background which I enjoy.

The other one I’ll avoid, thanks

I am glad everyone agrees that my negative points were worth it!

Welp, my run is going to be hampered… on top of all my other health woes, I just broke my hand. Walking Murphy’s Law, indeed.

Yowch. :persevere: Sorry to hear it, that’s going to be a pain to deal with.

Damn, that sounds painful. I broke a finger once playing volleyball, that was quite enough.

I guess it’s visual novels only (or an adaptive controller!) for you for a while then…

Hope you have a speedy recovery

+1 Dark Burial

Another one of those easy completions I bought for the other contest. This one happened to also qualify for the TA challenge. It’s an extremely basic puzzle platformer.

Hit one level on this and really spoilt enjoyment. Got through it and close to end but the design and choices in it didn’t agree with me. Plus nothing worse than not knowing where you are getting hit from.

Ah, that’s never fun. I need to get through the Metro games too, another series I’ve not gotten to yet. Safely tucked away in the backlog though, of course

  • +1 - Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (XSX) - I had this game originally on the GameCube and absolutely loved it, but never beat it. Being able to buy this again over 20 years later on Xbox with a ton of enhancements and achievements has been such a gift. It may not be the most complicated of farming sims, or even of the Story of Seasons/HM series, but it’s my personal favorite: a lot of core memories formed around the time of the game and the atmosphere in it is perfection. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Having to be picky about games that can be played one handed and I’ve been working on this one for the better part of a year… so much more I could say about how beautiful this game is

Edit: I still have that game for GCN actually, not had

I love the Metro Series, the books and games. The original, in its original form (360), is my favorite. The characters, close combat survival horror gameplay, the story, and especially the librarians. Last Light was mostly more of the same, so I enjoyed it as well. I haven’t gotten far into Exodus, as the departure from the titular metro and the books gave me a sour taste. But one day I will give it a good shake!

+1 Dad’s Monster House

A short point and click to get me in the Halloween mood. I wasn’t expecting the ending! Some of the puzzles are obtuse and navigation is pretty bad at first, but was enjoyable overall.

+1 Metro Exodus. Really enjoyed this in the end despite one area not being enjoyable for me. Apparently I got the bad ending but I’m ok with that as didn’t realise they were ways to play to get certain outcomes. Not sure what’s next on menu.
