I wanna say something for the record. Those Playstation water bearers (I really want to say something more caustic, but I’ll behave) in games media really wanted this deal to fall through. But we live in a reality where the deal is more likely to pass than not. The initial CMA report was like a second wind to them, but in their little minds, they thought it may as well be a block. Fast forward to now and their masks are slipping. But let’s be real, they weren’t even slick with their bias.
They know what’s at stake, this deal WILL impact PS market share. After all, the bestselling PS game yearly is cod. As if they can stop what’s coming. These people wanted to celebrate MS leaving the gaming industry. Now, as far as everyone’s concerned, MS is buying ABK to make sure they never leave the space.
The ‘gaming’ media is why I went to discover content creators. I love the honesty and passion from content creators. I watch gaming reviews from Xbox Era and others on YouTube.
Did you ever see the way Patrick reacted when MS first announced they were in the process of buying Activision? He had a melt down. Dude is no better than the people he is tweeting about. I used to think he was a really good journalist back when he was at Giant Bomb.
One thing I am enjoying like a lot from PsychOdyssey is seeing how ideas, plot twists or concepts that are actually in the game were first mentioned casually in a random brainstorming session.
He is a good journalist. He doesn’t like consolidation of any sort. He’s allowed to have a “opposing take”, just like pro-Xbox journalists such as IGN Ryan can support it. Klepek is a great researcher, interviewer, and writer, calling that into question because he had a reaction a year ago seems harsh, no?
One thing about this console generation, specifically Xbox here, that I find disappointing is the lack of other SSD brands, they still aren’t here and the Seagate ones are still quite pricy.
Now I’ve seen this and I gotta wonder, could this possibly work?
There were multiple videos on YouTube and other write-ups about devices such as this last year. From what I remember, the issue still remains you have to still buy the actual storage card for it. They were Xbox Storage Card slot to CompactFlash adapters. The actual storage cards that worked with it were very specific and difficult to find too. Even when found and priced out, both items combined were within 5% of the price of the full retail storage cards when on sale. The question became “Is potential headaches and troubles worth saving $10?” Maybe the market conditions are different now for those devices.
Actual Details from the link. This is the same CF Adapter I talked about earlier where you need to find and buy explicit version of the mass storage cards, explicitely:
Matching hard disk: Western Digital CH SN 530 1T
Important statement: This product does not contain hard disks, so customers need to purchase hard disks to use them
Yeah. I really wish others jumped in or the price for the mass storage part was cheaper.
The cheapest eBay listing for the 1TB CH SN 530 is around $150 and that adapter is $15 - $25. So the price is $165 - $175. That’s a bit cheaper than the occasional NewEgg sale for $189. So a $15 - $25 savings around max of 13%.
There’s some listings where the raw drive is over $200. There’s some “refurbs” for cheaper, but don’t know how confident I’d be with refurbs as there’s no real diagnostics or stats of the drive posted with them.
I’m kinda considering just getting a normal external SSD to install X games to and when I want to play them move them over to the internal. I wonder how fast the copying/moving process would go, how long it would take for like say…70GB or so.
