Yep.

The Asian game industry doesn’t produce very much first person games. There isn’t much to look for there.

Not to mention there’s just more variety in what a third person game can be vs a first person game.

Microsoft did have deal with Crossfire X and Bright Memory (I guess?). Both were the first games. I think only Lies of P is the third person game.

Sony for example goes after third person games everywhere it seems. China Hero project - either indie or third person game. In Korea? Stellar Blade and so on.

If I’m MS I’m paying the big bag for Gechin, that was a massive miss for MS.

Sony was smart to hop on that as soon as possible.

Genshin is not coming to Xbox. I am sure Sony did whatever they could to prevent that.

It is shame that Microsoft is 1 or 2 steps behind Sony in every gaming market. Tech wise they are much better, but content wise they are 1-3 years behind.

Bright Memory ended up releasing on PS5/Xbox/Switch as a multiplat release. I think all Xbox had exclusively was the $5 demo version for a little while. I memory-holed Crossfire X lol.

And going off of this, Sony is planning to not make it easy for MS to work in China. Though MS’s lack of effort till Genshin slapped them in the face doesn’t help either.

They’re going after more of things that work well for them, and first person games just never did work that well for them, lol.

I’m still not sure if I want to get hyped about a lot of these startup studios by veteran devs promising ambitious AAA projects. I think best way to go would be to wait and see.

Same here, a lot of these new studios hype themselves by saying made by people from Rockstar, Naughty dog, Bethesda only to see some people are from QA or inexperienced positions. It is very difficult to get full AAA level funding on any game by these new studios, unless backed by bigger corps like SkyDance, NetEase etc.

It’s not even that, a lot of them are directors and designers and from creative roles, but it still doesn’t guarantee a good outcome necessarily.

Imo, that’s because 1st person games have been forced into a box of what is acceptable. But games like Mirrors Edge show us how much you can push that out if the box, to establish unique fp experiences.

Microsoft stopped having time exclusive deals for notable titles long time go. Exceptions happen - like with Stalker - but for example Atomic Heart is multiplat. Unless Microsoft is funding the game fully, I don’t expect any big exclusive deals at all. Game Pass deal at best.

And that’s on the west. In Asia it is worse.

Well, it is a shame what happened with Genshin Impact but as I mentioned before - Microsoft is 1-3 year behind Sony in gaming content.

True, NetEase seems to invest a lot. I wish Microsoft did more of that but well…

True but Microsoft would want the game to be exclusive if they invest in it and day 1 gamepass

Love the 360 controller, but that D-pad is objectively dog water.

It’s too late for me. I’m really hyped to see more ā€˜AAA’ WRPG studios after last gen’s drought.
