Didn’t Xbox patent a similar thing a while back
I expect this is what will hapen for consoles going forward, everything will be digital only but they will provide an external disc reader that can attach to the consoles for people that still want to use discs
Will keep costs down and will also entice more people to buy digitally instead

Seeing PS5 having optional disc drive makes me wonder why the Series S didn’t have that option. I have some friends that passed on series s because they wanted a disc drive option
I think it was for several reasons. Series S acts as a Game Pass and F2P console, without needing a disk drive. I think it was to also avoid having too many options on the market. Keep it simple, and maybe propose more down the line.

Before thinking about competing with COD, they need to deliver a finished product. BF2042 failed to get ahead of a racing game on the MS Store US.

What I also wonder, will Sony phase out their digital PS5, because it just wouldn’t make sense to keep it then.
I like the idea of a replaceable disc drive. I have a 13 year old Xbox 360 that stopped reading discs reliably, I can still use it for digital games but I had to get a whole new 360E for disc games.
I still doubt that one exist haha.
